The machines are not the problem as most farm now have electronic systems that regulate their irrigation systems and water pumps. They switch the pumps on and off and nothing works if there is no electricity. Modern farming has seen a multitude of applications that work with electricity.

Now that you say this, one farmer here has adopted the ways of old and he is plowing his lands with horses pulling the plow. So yes, maybe everyone should return to the methods of the past without electricity.
Horses don't need any gasoline either, and their emission is fertilizer :) ... So much better for everyone!
