A Beautiful Sublime Sunday - Fall a Season of Migration

in Feathered Friends3 years ago

A sure sign that it is Fall, for me, is when I hear the geese and see them flocking together with the changing seasons and the coming of colder temperatures.

Around where I live we have a multitude of lakes and ponds for the ducks and geese to gather on. I visited a number of them and have some highlights of the waterfowl I saw gathering there.

I'll start with one of my favorite lakes to visit this time of year. There are grain fields all around it and a lovely little island in the middle of it that is a great resting place for the ducks and geese.

On one point of the island there was both Canada geese and the speckled belly geese busy grooming themselves.

My coming up to watch the geese caused a bit of a raucous as the geese are pretty leery. Bit by bit they took off from the lake in tinier flocks until most of them were gone.

Along with the geese at this pond there were some ducks too.

There was another lake right at the edge of town that was busy with ducks.

And one last pond to share that was more off in the distance but had a large flock of snow geese swimming at the waters edge. There had been large flocks of snow geese in some grain fields that I drove by but I didn't have my camera with me.

Those migrating birds is a spectacular sight @porters! We have a couple of Canadian Geese. Every year when they return I wonder: "Did they really just fly THAT far?!!!"

I would wonder where they came from - I couldn't see them flying over the ocean. There must be a variety that is native to that continent.

That's what I thought. There's only ever two. Not more

It guess it must be a bit noisy there but it's great to seem them together.

👍Excellent observations!

Were these taken a while back? I thought you guys had snow already....

Yes I took them awhile back but I never got a chance to post them

Great photos @porters, loved the shots with the geese taking flight. A few weeks back we started noticing them in the sky , honking and getting into formation. Cool stuff, nature is just amazing.
Thanks for sharing, keep the fires burning, winter is here, again.
