With most of the migratory birds gone the hardy birds that winter over here in Saskatchewan, Canada become more abundant.
I had planted a number of lilac bushes around my place and the evening grosbeaks love the lilac seeds. They were quite busy eating the seeds that it allowed me to get quite close and capture some action shots.

I have two bird feeders, one in the front part of yard and the other in the bushier part closer to the back.
On the back one, a flock of evening grosbeaks had come in for a feed.
Listen to their cheerful chirping...
It was mostly the red pine grosbeaks that I saw at the other feeder but this one flock of the yellow evening grosbeaks had come in the earlier part of the morning.

It was interesting to see the juvenile birds trying to get their parents to feed them right at the bird feeder. They flutter their wings and the parent pops a seed into their beaks.

Although the grosbeaks were the most abundant birds at the feeder there were a number of other birds coming to feed.

Off on the tree branches there were different birds waiting their turn at the feeder. The bluejays were the one's who ruled the feeder chasing others away but they were also more skiddish of me being by the feeder so they hung in the background until I left.

Way up on top of the spruce tree, where they could survey the whole yard, a grosbeak was watching the area by the feeder.

It sure is wonderful having all the birds in the yard with their cheerful calls, adding color to the landscape!

👍Great post!
Pine grosbeak are beautiful birds! We also have them in Siberia, just now winter is coming and they should fly by.
The last of the bluejay was pretty nice! I know we have grosbeaks around here, our birding neighbors have seen them, but I never have.
Those grosbeaks! I used to have Evening grosbeaks visit my feeder all the time when I lived further north and I miss them. It's great to see them in your photos! I love seeing your winter birds!
Thanks for posting to the #featheredfriends community!
what beautiful little birds they are
