🦉 The Eurasian three-toed woodpecker (Picoides tridactylus)

📚 Picoides picus (lat.) woodpecker, -oides similar
📚 tridactylus tridaktylos (Greek) three-toed

I don't see this guy very often. They appear in the forests of my city only with the advent of autumn, somewhere in the middle of September. You can also see them in winter. But the rest of the time they are not. It is written in encyclopedias that they live in the northern taiga forests and also in mountain forests.

Their appearance differs from other species of woodpeckers mainly in the presence of a yellow cap on the head of males, and actually three toes on their feet. And their behavior differs in that they examine trees no higher than 2-3 meters, for some reason they do not climb high.
