🦉 The song thrush (Turdus philomelos)

  • Turdus (lat) - Thrush
  • philomelos - Greek: phileo to love, melos song; philomela nightingale. According to ancient Greek mythology Philomela - the daughter of Pandion the First, king of Athens, was raped by Tereus, the husband of her sister Procne (or Progne), who, to hide the crime, tore out her tongue. Zeus, out of compassion, turned Philomela into a nightingale and Procne into a swallow. Pandion died of grief after learning about the tragedy in his family, and Zeus turned him into an osprey.

Impressive etymology of the name, isn't it?
This species of thrush differs from others in the presence of a song in its repertoire, I think this was already clear from the name. And their song is very interesting, with notes of melancholy, it sounds very beautiful. I really love in the spring to stand under the tree where the singer sits and listen.

Another interesting feature is that this species arrives much later than other thrushes. It is also more cautious, which makes it difficult for observations and especially for taking photos and videos.
They fly to warmer climes late, I have even seen them on the eve of winter, at the end of October.
