🦉 The redwing (Turdus iliacus)

  • Turdus (Latin) thrush
  • iliacus ilia (lat.) sides, iliacus with sides (i.e. with red sides)

This species of thrush should, in theory, appear after winter later than its brother, the fieldfare, but this is not always the case. It’s strange, fieldfare is a wintering species, but it flies away from my cold region if the winter is cold; it prefers to winter in warmer regions, but inland, not far away. And the redwing is a migratory species of thrush, and it flies from afar. But in the spring they appear almost together, and sometimes, like last year, it appeared earlier than the fieldfare.

I photographed these guys in the photo at the old cemetery. For some reason they love it very much, there are always a lot of blackbirds there, except for the song thrush.
And by the way, this species is much shyer and more cautious than the fieldfare, so it is more difficult to photograph it; you have to hide and be quiet.

Good morning dear friend @ratel
What a beautiful thrush, I have never seen one like this, although in Corrientes-Argentina we have thrushes, it does not have the color combination of this plumage
Thank you very much for letting us know about this beautiful specimen.

Thank you friend, they are about to arrive, or maybe they have already arrived, i need to go check.
