🦉 The Eurasian bullfinch, common bullfinch or bullfinch (Pyrrhula pyrrhula)

  • Pyrrhula (Greek): pyrrhos - red

Charming plump birds. They live mainly in coniferous forests, away from civilization. However, with the arrival of cold weather, usually in early October, they fly to the nearest forests in search of food.
They feed mainly on berry bushes, such as rowan or viburnum. They also eat the seeds of the ash-leaved maple.

Now in my city the weather is terribly cold, like winter, with icy winds and snowfall. And some of them returned back to city parks. Today I saw two bullfinches when I walked past.
As you might guess, their sexual dimorphism is pronounced. Males are bright red, while females are faded in color, similar to chocolate ice cream.

Ну не знаю насчет, что они любят есть калину и рябину, но никогда их не видел на калине и рябине.
Они точно любят семки подсолнечные :)

Мою калину любят есть воробьи, когда она подмёрзнет.. и пьяные потом песни поют :)

The females do have a wonderful creamy chocolate color! Beautiful photos!

Thanks 😉

Both male and female very attractive birds, both bullfinches eating finding food, must be busy in the trees.
