🦉 The citrine wagtail (Motacilla citreola)

  • Motacilla lat .: mōto, mōtare move continuously, -cilla tail (cilla like a tail - only in ornithology, erroneous established name)
  • citreola lat .: citrus, citreus citrus, citreolus lemon color

Look at these photos. You must admit, this bird is like a sunbeam among the grass. The bright yellow head and chest contrast sharply with the dark back. If everyone knows the common white wagtail, then this one is its more exotic relative.

I meet them every year in the steppe zone, on flooded meadows. These birds are always in their place there. They walk on the grass in search of insects.
Unlike the white wagtail, which settles near human habitation, the yellow-headed wagtail (as we call it) seems more cautious. It is not so easy to approach it closely, it immediately flies off, flies to a safe distance into the bushes.
