🦉 The coal tit or cole tit (Periparus ater)
- Peri (Greek) very, hugely
- Parus (lat.) Tit
- ater (lat.) black, dark

This tiny, 9-gram bird lives primarily in coniferous forests, but can also be found in mixed forests. With the arrival of autumn and winter, the birds leave their usual habitats in search of food. However, unlike other birds of this family (paridae), it avoids populated areas and is generally wary of people.

It feeds on insects, spiders, and pine seeds. It can store food for the winter by hiding it in bark crevices.
Occasionally, it flies into city parks and visits bird feeders, where it happily eats seeds, nuts, and unsalted suet.
