🦉 The common redstart (Phoenicurus phoenicurus)

  • Phoenicurus Greek: dark red phoinix, oura tail

We call this bird the "flaming tail" because of its bright red tail, which looks like a tongue of flame and constantly trembles. It arrives in the second half of April, assuming the insects it feeds on have already appeared. At this time, the bird is quite cautious, not allowing anyone to approach it too closely, although it is quite active.

Everything changes when nestlings appear. A bird, upon seeing a predator (or any other nuisance in the form of a curious human), tries to draw the danger's attention to itself and lead it away from its children and the nest.
