🦉 The common rosefinch (Carpodacus erythrinus)
- Carpodacus Greek: karpos fruit, daknō to bite
- erythrinus erythros (Greek, lat.) red

I encounter these red sparrows (as they were called in the old days) near the forest along the riverbank, as well as in clearings near mixed forests. Generally, the birds inhabit the lower forest layers, in shrubs.

The adult male is easily recognized by its plumage. It's bright pink, and the older the male, the larger and richer its plumage. Juveniles resemble females, with brownish, dull plumage, like that of sparrows.
