🦉 The common redstart (Phoenicurus phoenicurus)

  • Phoenicurus Greek: dark red phoinix, oura tail

We call this bird the "bald burning tail," or the "garden burning tail." It got its name from its red tail, which trembles like a tongue of flame.
These brightly colored (in the case of males) birds live in forests and even in city courtyards. It's just that almost everyone has no idea that these birds are lurking in the bushes outside their windows.

The bird is almost entirely insectivorous, and only with the arrival of autumn do they add berries to their diet. They arrive in late April and fly back closer to autumn. However, I have occasionally encountered these birds as late as mid-September.
