🦉 The Eurasian golden oriole (Oriolus oriolus)

  • Oriolus oryolus (lat.) oriole [Old French. oryol oriole, aureolus gold]

This very bright and beautiful bird arrives very late, around mid-May, when the trees are already beginning to turn green. It's crucial to spot and capture it in a photo before the leaves emerge, as the bird lives in the upper canopy of the forest and carefully hides among the foliage.

Its diet consists primarily of arboreal insects, primarily caterpillars, including hairy ones. It also eats flying insects such as butterflies, dragonflies, and crane flies. It also eats beetles and spiders.
Most surprisingly, orioles sometimes raid the nests of small birds. In summer, when fruits and berries ripen, they sometimes eat them too.
