🦉 The Eurasian treecreeper or common treecreeper (Certhia familiaris)

  • Certhia (Greek): kerthios - a small bird crawling through the trees, mentioned by Aristotle
  • familiaris (lat.): common, easily recognizable

Look at this bird's coloring - it literally blends in with the tree bark! It would seem difficult to spot, but the bird never sits still; it's always in motion. And it moves in a spiral motion up the tree trunk.

The bird feeds on small insects, which it finds and pulls out from under the bark or cracks in the bark using its tweezers-like beak.
It has a hard time in winter, and it doesn’t fly away to warmer countries like other insectivorous birds. Therefore, she is sometimes forced to feed on small seeds from plants and trees.
