🦉 The brambling (Fringilla montifringilla)
- Fringilla (lat.) Finch; fi nco (old German)
- montifringilla lat .: mōns, montis mountain, mountain range
I don't come across these guys very often due to their small numbers compared to, for example, their closest relatives - chaffinches.
I mostly see them in the spring during their mating season. Then they disappear somewhere. In the summer, I only encounter them in the coniferous forests, already with their young.
