SMaP 115 - Bird That Impressed Me

in Feathered Friends • last year

Thanks @nelinoeva for the new contest. You can find the announcement and rules here.
And the topic of this week was - BIRD/S
THAT IMPRESSED ME
.

🦉 The Eurasian nuthatch or wood nuthatch (Sitta europaea)

📚 Sitta sittē (Greek) mentioned by Aristotle and other ancient Greek. by the authors of the bird, something similar to the woodpecker
📚 europaea (lat.) European

After reading the name of the new competition, I immediately remembered my first meeting with the nuthatch. It was spring 2017. At that time, I was not yet fond of birdwatching, and just went to the forest to photograph landscapes.

I met fieldfare thrushes along the way and photographed them. But when I met the nuthatch... What for me at that time were birds, just birds that fly and sit on branches. But the nuthatch... This nimble buddy moved up and down the tree, then from the bottom up, and on the sides, and then generally upside down! I was impressed. I have never seen anything like it.
By the way, the very first three photos are from the same meeting when I first saw this bird.

In addition to deft climbing trees, this bird is very surprising with its behavior. Having found food, he first cuts it, for example, a seed from a peel, an insect from a hard chitinous cover, and only after that hides it somewhere in reserve.

Moreover, it is very amusing when in crowded parks where there are feeders and nuthatches completely tame, how they sit on passers-by and beg for food. And having received a treat, they immediately begin to hide in hats, sleeves or pockets. This is very funny.

Aww, so charming the nuthatch is. It must be fun to feed it and watch it hiding afterwards. 😀
Wonderful post and great shots! Thank you again for the entry, so delightful.

Oh my gosh, I always wanted to see a nuthatch while in the UK, but never did. They are such cute and charismatic little birds. Great photos 🦋
