SMaP 95 - Free Theme (River birds)

in Feathered Friendslast year

For a long time I did not participate in the @nelinoeva competition. Well, since this week's topic is free, I decided to show you the birds that I often meet on the river.

The ruff (Calidris pugnax)
These sandpipers I meet every year in the middle or end of September. At this time, the river level is low, and these birds like to rest on the stones exposed from the water.

The common sandpiper (Actitis hypoleucos)
And these waders arrive at the beginning of May, and all along the coast you can hear their nasty squeaking voices.

The grey heron (Ardea cinerea)
Herons are also found mainly in spring in small numbers, and in autumn in family flocks.

The common tern (Sterna hirundo)
These graceful birds fly along the entire river. They look out for fish on the surface of the water, and when they see prey, they dive after it.

The Eurasian teal (Anas crecca)
These birds are sometimes found on the river, but mostly I see them near the river, on a seasonal lake where they like to rest.

The black-headed gull (Chroicocephalus ridibundus)
This species of gulls is not particularly numerous, unlike

The European herring gull (Larus argentatus)
These gulls are the most common and numerous on the river.

The white wagtail (Motacilla alba)
Yes, despite the fact that these birds are synanthropes, they can easily be found on the coast. There they are apparently looking for aquatic insects.

The mallard or wild duck (Anas platyrhynchos)
Habitual and numerous duck.

The little ringed plover (Charadrius dubius)
These little nimble guys love to wander along the pebbles on the banks of the river.

Nice collection! I still have some difficulties identifying all the sandpipers and relatives, damn those similar colour patterns! 😁

Oh, how I understand you! It's really hard to tell them apart.

However, these beautiful birds are still my favorite, have a good day.

Thanks 😉

Always a pleasure to view your excellent photos. They all are so beautiful.
Thank you again for your wonderful entry.

Thank you!
