🦉 The willow tit (Poecile montanus)

📚 Poecile poikilis (Greek) an unidentified small bird mentioned in ancient texts
📚 montanus (lat .) : mōns, montis mountain, mountain range, montanus mountain

Nimble movable tit.
Its alternative name is puffy, she got due to the fact that in cold weather she fluffs her feathers very much to keep warm.
Starting from autumn, you can hear their hoarse calls in the forests. You will not confuse these voices with the voices of other birds. But the spring mating song, on the contrary, is tender, sonorous and melancholy.

Ornithologists also told me that this bird has a certain "pampering" in her repertoire. Honestly, I do not know how to translate this word into English. This signal sounds like a fast peppy gurgling trill (“bubble song”) in very different modifications. Hear this when the males are figuring out their territorial status.

Just like the nuthatch, this tit stores food all year round. But unlike him, in much smaller quantities.

Sort:

in my village in Greece, this little bird is unofficially called "papaditsa" or "papadia", which means the wife of the clergyman (in Greece the clergy can get married). In any case, nice post Ratel and amazing work on your profile!

Wow! Thank you for your kind words and for the very interesting information!

Quite similar looking to the black capped chickadees over here.

Yes, they are close relatives, but they live far apart😀 Even the voices are similar.

Yay! 🤗
