These birds begin their autumn migration around October. And by mid-late October, I already meet them in the forests of my city. They raid berry trees, such as viburnum, and mostly rowan in large noisy flocks.
Everyone is used to seeing them sitting on these trees, but these birds very rarely descend to the ground. Mostly to drink water from puddles (photo below) or streams, but sometimes in search of food as in the photo above.
If you didn’t manage to enjoy these birds in the winter, then there is an opportunity to do it in the spring. But you need to hurry. Even in early May, in the forests, you can catch these birds flying far from the south back home, to the north.
