🔶The great tit (Parus major)

In our country, in ancient times, this bird was called "tit-grasshopper", "greater", and in some regions "zinziver". She was nicknamed the Grasshopper for her dexterous jumps and acrobatic tricks on branches. But the last name comes from somewhere from the Western Slavs, as far as I remember, somewhere in the area of present-day Hungary. "Zin-Zi-Ver!" is onomatopoeia, sounds of a spring song.

It's funny to watch, as soon as the first signs of spring appear, the sun barely starts to warm, these birds are already looking for a mate. To be more precise, at this time the oldest birds, alpha males and alpha females, are the first to start looking for a pair.

With regards to these photos. I made them in May, when a couple of tits found an interesting hollow, which was just the right size for them. The male examined it and called the female to decide whether it would be their future home or not.
