Here are a few birds from a sunset walk.
There is a swampy area that I like to go walking at evening.
Many water birds fly in to roost on the swamp. This gives plenty of opportunities for silhouettes.
The swamp is almost completely covered in duckweed. All sorts of species of ducks waddle around in this muck for their evening meals.
There was even a white egret and if you look closely there is a deer way off in the background.
I always check this dead tree for bird silhouettes. This time I caught a flock of waxwings.
Out in the prairie lands next to the swamp there are all sorts of interesting plants to get some edge lighting from the sunset.
Prairie plants are great for attracting goldfinches.
Goldfinches have longer legs than many finches so they can grab the stems and crane their neck to eat the seed pods.
This little guy was kind enough to let me sneak up fairly close for photos.
There was another possibly younger male eating seeds out of a different pod. Unfortunately this one was skittish and flew away before more photos could be taken.

Yeah there are all sorts of critters to see in that area. I saw a weasel the other day as well as a woodcock, but it flew off too fast before I could ready the camera.
What a pity I would have loved to see what a woodcok is like, I don't find many creatures here, unless I go well away from home.

How beautiful it is there! And there are many different birds. Goldfinch is just lovely.
Goldfinch is one of my favorite birds. I'll be walking by a sunflower field and not even notice that one is right next to me. They have a habit of blending in with the flowers.

I've had flocks of goldfinches in the wildflower area for most of the summer. :))
They love the wild sunflowers and those echinacea flowers.

I think they are all ducks and geese, possibly some grebes. The grouse are very rare and hide well around here.

It's a grouse, in our place there are quite a lot, they always hide in the pond of a company that is closely guarded.
At night they go down to the fields.
