The most popular bird in America today is the turkey.

Most have already reserved their turkey's a week in advance at the store.

Others are searching around the store frantically at the last minute for any turkeys left.

Many have to resort to just some turkey cold cuts.

While other obnoxious ones will do a tofurkey and subject everyone to trying it.

Just be thankful there isn't a Beyond Meat substitute for turkey yet...

For those who have to travel or get stuck in some strange place perhaps ordering a duck at a Chinese restaurant will work fine.

Or if you are in a real pinch you could just order a chicken sandwich at McDonalds... Sad stuff...

At the end of the day most everyone will be bloated on drumsticks and gravy.

And for weeks afterwards there will be all sorts of spinoff turkey dinners. Sandwiches, and soups. Heck, perhaps a turkey menudo will do for using up the leftovers.

And once the meat is picked off the bones those in the rural areas will leave them out for the turkey vultures to pick at them.

That is if they can get past the coyotes fighting over what is left of the carcasses.
Happy thanksgiving and give thanks to this fine feathered friend, the turkey.
Thanks again @brumest :-)
The photos are beautiful ! I didn't see the turkey that big.
They are quite common here. The first photo is a male turkey showing off to a bunch of females hidden in the weeds. Ben Franklin one of the founding fathers wanted to make the US bird the turkey instead of the bald eagle because they are only found in America. It would be quite hilarious to have one of the these turkey's as the country mascot.
Hahaha, evil always looks good
Hard to make a silly turkey look threatening enough for a country mascot.
Haha you always have a great story to tell in your answers you have a lot of humor and it's great!!
Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours!
Turkey looks to be the big hit at this time of the year! Excellent photography with good ideas to get through the rush.

We're slowly starting to cook ours already. There's the dangerous deep fried way that everyone starts fires with and the long tedious oven way.
Only ever once cooked a massive big turkey with my sister-in-law an overnight ordeal, never again!
We ended up having to put it back in as it wasn't fully done the first time around. Must not have been fully thawed out.
Art to cooking those big birds.... Have an awesome weekend.
Happy Thanksgiving!
We always try to spend a little time discussing what we are thankful for ... Thats going to be on the top of my list this year 🤣
My sister once went vegan and tried making us a tofurkey it was gross. Fortunately there was a backup deep fried turkey from one of our red neck relatives lol.
Deep fried tofu 🤔
yeah it was some kind of baked tofu stuff, barely tasted like anything good. Those meat replacements never quite work out.
Happy thanksgiving! I guess these turkeys knew their fate... As seen in the face of that sad-looking turkey in the last photo. 😌
The last two guys are domesticated turkeys at a show farm. They probably got spared from the harvest as they are more like pets.
Happy Thanksgiving.
The Turkey looks really big.I will choose Turkey over chicken though.
I hope you have a great thanksgiving
Yeah those first few wild ones I found were quite large. But most of it is feather fluff.
Oh that don’t have much flesh compared to chickens though
The domesticated ones are a good 5x bigger than chickens. Even bigger than a goose.
Wow, I haven’t seen those ones before, I went to a poultry ones and a Turkey kept staring at me, he was so big and I was scared I don’t know if those were domesticated ones.
They are big but pretty gentle compared to a rooster.
Yay! 🤗

What beautiful shots dear friend @sketch.and.jam I love the plumage and its color combinations
Happy Thanksgiving, enjoy delicious turkey sandwiches
Yeah the turkey is still slow cooking, there will be plenty of sandwiches in the next couple weeks for sure.
These birds are not going to win any beauty awards, but the photographs are spectacular :)
They are like dinosaurs before they evolved feathers. Some of the males have really gnarly looking waddles.
What a handsome guy!
I hope he didn't get on the festive table?
I saw him in spring so who knows what happened by fall. They are fairly plentiful in the cornfields over here so if he stuck to the forest he should be fine as most the farmers hunt on their own fields for these guys.
😀👍👍
