Trawling Kickstarter is always going to be a bit of dangerous experience for me... games, comics... and of course, the hardware section! Games have tended to be a bit of a hit and miss affair... too much ending up being well-intentioned, but beyond the developer's ability to carry to full realisation of their awesome vision. Comics tend to be safer...

... and the hardware, well... lots of it is interesting, but it is again a touch risky unless you are getting something from a team with established backgrounds in producing reliable and good hardware. Supply chains, factories and all of that thing makes it difficult for a newcomer to realise their hardware vision. You need a team that already knows how it works...

Plus, there is also the added risk that hardware projects tend to be a good deal more expensive to buy into than software or IP sorts of things.... and then there is the nagging thought in the back of the head, do I really need this thing?

Well... do I need another torch? No... probably not.

But... do I need a compact, metal, multifunction LED torch with UV/Laser and enough wattage to burn the retinas of a spaceman minding their own business on the surface of the Moon? YES YES YES!!!!

... and here is the cool little thing! There was the black version, and also the camo green as well... but there was stretch funding goal unlocked which was this super awesome copper orange! With the added benefit in that it won't blend into the tabletops or other things when I'm busy trying to look for it!

A few small accessories were included... a lanyard, clip, and USB-C cable... not much, but pretty much all that is needed! Rechargeable batteries were already in the flashlight... and they were also removeable... which is a super nice feature these days!

The whole thing just fits neatly in my hand... okay, I have a bit of a long-fingered girly hand... but it just feels like it was designed in a way that is just a pleasure to pick and use. That said... it is a right handed device, with the ergonomics of the shape and dials done with a right hander in mind.

On the front face, a selector dial for lock, wide beam, tight beam, and SPECIAL!!!!

... and the Special option? Well, you have a UV light, a green laser, and a multicolour LED strip (that you can see in the middle of this photo).

On the back, just the attachment for the clip...

On the hand reverse, the water resistant charging port... and the flap is also user replaceable! Again, a great addition... as these flaps do tend to get brittle and break over time. And the battery lock latch.

On the top, the button for turning the lights on and off or selection through the various special lights... and the wide and tight beams have multiple levels of brightness as well!

You can see that when the torch is held, the button and the selector dial are all easily reachable and useable by your right thumb. Feels good!

The light hardware...

... and the battery compartment hatch and a screw anchor for attaching to a tripod or something!

... I love this torch, it is a superb bit of engineering that is functional... and feels great to hold and use! Its metal body feels solid and premium, and the lights... ARE AWESOME!

Oh boy, yeah, I think Kickstarter would be dangerous for sure. I haven't visited it since I did the whole thing for Steem Monsters when it launched. Probably a good thing! That looks like a sweet light!
