Muy buenas a todos comunidad de Hive, la verdad tenía mucho tiempo sin publicar y creo que ya era hora de volver 😅 y pues el día de hoy les traigo una anécdota con aprendizaje que me ocurrió hace poco con mi internet, así que les daré un poco de contexto.
En mi casa teníamos Internet por fibra óptica, un plan de 50Mbps (de los cuales llegaban unos 80/90 Mbps jeje porque usualmente eso no lo regulan del todo), lo cual se traducía en descargas de unos 11MBps en condiciones óptimas, por ejemplo cableando desde el Router al PC, que en mi caso era un TP Link WR940N que decía poder aguantar conexiones de hasta 450Mbps, y pues de momento no tenía mayor quejas con dicho router, el wifi estaba decente y cableado no tenía problemas, era estable.
Hello everyone Hive community, the truth was a long time without posting and I think it was time to return 😅 and today I bring you an anecdote with learning that happened to me recently with my internet, so I'll give you a little context.
In my house we had fiber optic internet, a 50Mbps plan (of which came about 80/90 Mbps hehe because usually that is not regulated at all), which resulted in downloads of about 11MBps in optimal conditions, for example wiring from the Router to the PC, which in my case was a TP Link WR940N that said it could withstand connections up to 450Mbps, and for the moment I had no major complaints with that router, the wifi was decent and wired had no problems, it was stable.

Y pues un día recibí la muy grata noticia de que la compañía de internet había mejorado el plan que había contratado de 50mbps a 200mbps gratis y pues yo mas que feliz ya que soy un gran consumidor de contenido de internet y que también trabajo con el, peeero entonces vi que algo no estaba bien, si hacía un test de velocidad, no veía reflejados los 200mbps ni siquiera con la conexión cableada, máximo llegaba a unos 93mbps mas o menos, pensé que sería que aun no estaba activo el plan, pero al pasar de los días no veía que no mejoraba la situación, yo tengo cables ethernet Categoría 5e, por lo cual en teoría pueden aguantar hasta 1000mbps, y según la web de TP Link ese modelo soportaba hasta 450mbps, entonces no entendía lo que pasaba y tampoco era por actualización del firmware del router; hasta que investigando mas a fondo me percaté de que el router cuenta con puertos ethernet estándar, o sea de máximo 100mbps, significando que no me iba a poder entregar todo el poder de mi nuevo plan de internet.
Así que tenía que buscar uno que si pudiera, ojo, mi pc actual es compatible con Wifi 6 y tiene un puerto 2.5 Gigabit, así que sabía que la inversión sería compatible, ya que muchos equipos algo viejitos no cuentan con esa compatibilidad y no serían capaces de aprovechar el plan así el router lo pueda hacer.
And then one day I received the very pleasant news that the internet company had improved the plan I had contracted from 50mbps to 200mbps free and I was more than happy because I am a big consumer of internet content and I also work with it, but then I saw that something was not right, if I did a speed test, I did not see reflected the 200mbps not even with the wired connection, I thought that the plan was not yet active, but as the days went by I could not see that the situation was not improving, I have ethernet cables Category 5e, which in theory can withstand up to 1000mbps, and according to the TP Link website that model supported up to 450mbps, so I did not understand what was happening and it was not because of the router firmware update; Until I investigated further I realized that the router has standard ethernet ports, that is, a maximum of 100mbps, meaning that it would not be able to deliver the full power of my new internet plan.
So I had to look for one that could, mind you, my current PC is compatible with Wifi 6 and has a 2.5 Gigabit port, so I knew that the investment would be compatible, since many older computers do not have that compatibility and would not be able to take advantage of the plan so the router can do it.

Y pues después de tener ciertos ahorros me di la tarea de buscar un router que cumpliera con dichos requisitos de soportar un plan como el que tenía (y hasta mas), con buen alcance, doble banda y que no gastara todo mi dinero en el jeje (Y que no fuera excesivo para el plan, ya que hay routers de alta gama que estarían sobrados) y fue cunado encontré el router TP-Link Archer C5 por unos 50$ (Envío incluído) el cual me llamó la atención. Estaba a buen precio y ya me urgía otro router así que no dejé pasar la oportunidad.
And after having some savings I gave myself the task of looking for a router that met these requirements to support a plan like the one I had (and even more), with good range, dual band and not spend all my money on it hehe (And that was not excessive for the plan, as there are high-end routers that would be surplus) and it was when I found the TP-Link Archer C5 router for about $ 50 (Shipping included) which caught my attention. It was a good price and I was in need of another router so I jumped at the chance.
El Archer C5 AC 1200 es un router Gigabit de doble banda, capaz de transmitir 300Mbps por la banda 2.4Ghz y hasta 867Mbps por la banda 5Ghz (Dependerá de los dispositivos conectados y su compatibilidad), tiene 4 antenas y hasta un puerto USB 2.0 en la parte trasera para compartir archivos con la red interna; es bastante sencillo de configurar e instalar y nos ofrece también 4 puertos gigabit ethernet (los cuales eran lo que yo buscaba porque ofrece una velocidad de hasta un gigabit, cosa que no me ofrecía mi router anterior que máximo soportaba 100Mbps) y aún así no llegaba a los 100Mbps
The Archer C5 AC 1200 is a dual band Gigabit router, capable of transmitting 300Mbps on the 2.4Ghz band and up to 867Mbps on the 5Ghz band (depending on the connected devices and their compatibility), it has 4 antennas and even a USB 2. 0 port on the back to share files with the internal network; it is quite easy to configure and install and also offers 4 gigabit ethernet ports (which is what I was looking for because it offers a speed of up to one gigabit, something that my previous router did not offer me, which supported 100Mbps at most) and still did not reach 100Mbps.

Aquí tenemos una foto del cable que incluye el router y lo que debo aclarar es que, tal y como se ve en la foto es un cable Categoría 5 solamente, lo cual se me hace muy extraño ya que si hablamos de un router gigabit lo mas lógico es que sea al menos Categoría 5e ya que este si permite velocidades gigabit, poniendo como ejemplo de que tengas un plan de 600Mbps en tu casa y por casualidad conectes este router al recibidor de la compañía de fibra óptica solo estarás recibiendo 100Mbps de esos 600Mbps que contrataste, así que mucho ojo con eso, revisen sus cables que sean los adecuados y sus dispositivos sea compatibles con dichas velocidades, tanto cableadas como por Wifi.
Here we have a picture of the cable that includes the router and what I must clarify is that, as seen in the photo is a Category 5 cable only, which makes me very strange because if we talk about a gigabit router it is logical that it is at least Category 5e as it does allow gigabit speeds, as an example if you have a 600Mbps plan in your home and by chance you connect this router to the fiber optic company's receiver you will only be receiving 100Mbps of those 600Mbps you contracted, so be careful with that, check your cables are adequate and your devices are compatible with such speeds, both wired and Wifi.

Un vistazo a la parte inferior de nuestro router nos encontramos con la etiqueta que nos da mas información del mismo, así como también la dirección a la que debemos entrar para poder configurarlo, las contraseñas que trae por defecto para cada una de las redes wifi (Las cuales recomiendo encarecidamente cambiar), el nombre de las redes, serial, etc. La verdad es muy fácil de configurar, aunque otra cosa mala que debo de apuntar es que no ofrece la opción de encriptado de claves WPA3 la cual es la más nueva y segura por ahora, sin embargo WPA2 aún hace bien su trabajo).

En su parte posterior nos encontramos con los conectores ethernet gigabit (4 para ser exactos, ya que el de color azul es el WAN que es para recibir el internet), un puerto USB 2.0 para compartir archivos dentro de la red, el botón de encendido, el conector para el cargador y 2 botones pequeños, uno de Reset y el WPS (Función recomiendo encarecidamente deshabilitar por motivos de seguridad dentro de las opciones de seguridad del router).
On the back we find the gigabit ethernet connectors (4 to be exact, since the blue one is the WAN which is to receive the internet), a USB 2.0 port to share files within the network, the power button, the connector for the charger and 2 small buttons, one for Reset and the WPS (function I strongly recommend disabling for security reasons within the security options of the router).
Y pues una vez instalado solo me quedaba configurarlo, lo cual pude hacer en unos 5 minutos ya que es bastante sencillo incluso para usuarios no muy veteranos en tecnología y una vez conectada mi computadora solo me quedaba hacer una prueba de velocidad, en mi caso usé Wifiman, pero también pueden usar Fast o SpeedTest y mi grata sorpresa es que me llegaban los 200Mbps de mi plan sin mayor problema y con menos latencia incluso!
And once installed I only had to configure it, which I could do in about 5 minutes because it is quite simple even for not very veteran users in technology and once my computer was connected I only had to do a speed test, in my case I used Wifiman, but you can also use Fast or SpeedTest and my pleasant surprise is that I got the 200Mbps of my plan without major problems and even with less latency!
Así que yo espero esta experiencia les sirva como información a la hora de cambiar de router ya que hay varias cosas a tener en cuanta además de un nombre complicado con números y letras de por medio para hacerlo ver como lo último en tecnología ya que a veces hacemos inversiones sin tener en cuanta otros aspectos que al final del día también van a afectar nuestra experiencia y pues sin más que agregar espero les haya gustado el post y les sea de ayuda para cuando vayan a comprar el suyo. Pues aquí tienes esa pista que necesitabas jajaja, primero has una prueba con Wifiman para saber tu velocidad, luego revisa los cables y la información de tu router a ver si cumplen con los requisitos para tu plan de internet, espero te sirva, saludos!

Pues si, y mucho menos pensé que me iba a limitar por conexión cableada pero investigando vi que esos puertos ethernet viejos solo aguantaban hasta 100Mbps, y pues si TP-Link es un duro tampoco me ha dado problemas, saludos!!
