Este post lo estoy realizando para formar parte de la iniciativa de Ready Payer Hive, la cual en esta ocasión consiste en escoger a nuestro personaje más odiado de los videojuegos.
Voy a ser honesto aquí, y es que en todos estos 7 años de mi vida que llevo jugando videojuegos jamás he llegado a conocer algún personaje que me hiciera odiarlo como tal. Si he visto algunos que me han hecho enfadar pero uno que se gane el odio total para nada xd.
Así que empecé a hurgar entre los rincones más profundos de mi mente para poder encontrar algún recuerdo que me pudiera hacer más fácil esta decisión. Y fue en medio de toda esa lluvia de ideas que un nombre terminó llegando a mi cabeza con una claridad sorprendente: El Lagiacrus

Para el que no lo sepa, el Lagiacrus es un monstruo perteneciente a la conocida saga de Monster Hunter. Como indica el nombre de la saga, todos los juegos (a excepción de unos pocos) consisten en colocarnos en los zapatos de un cazador cuyo único aparente propósito en la vida es el de ponerse a cazar monstruos para farmear materiales como si no hubiera un mañana.
Con esto les acabo de resumir de una manera muy básica y acertada a toda la saga así que no creo que haga falta alargarme más xd.
Entonces, cuando yo tenía como 9-10 no recuerdo muy bien, mi hermano me instaló en mi Wii el Monster Hunter Tri. Para ese entonces yo no estaba para nada familiarizado ni con la saga ni con ese tipo de juegos así que cuando lo fui a jugar estaba un poco escéptico. Y al final el escepticismo me duró solo como media hora porque en cuanto me soltaron a explorar el primer mapa en busca de recursos quedé enamorado del juego XD.
Todo iba bien en mi partida, aún se me complicaba un poco dominar las mecánicas de combate pero supongo que es porque mis reflejos de cuando tenía 10 años no eran nada comparado a los que tengo ahora. En fin llegados a un punto me mandaron a hacer una misión obligatoria para avanzar en la historia la cual consistía en conseguir pescado. En cuanto lo vi pensé que era facilísimo así que me fui a la zona indicada a conseguir mis peces e irme.
Y dios mío lo que me encontré ahí no fue un pez, sino un Lagiacrus.
Para ponerlos un poco en contexto, el Lagiacrus se supone que es el enemigo principal del juego ya que aparentemente esta bestia acuática es la responsable de los terremotos constantes de tu aldea, por lo que ver a semejante bicho nadando tan tranquilamente justamente por la zona en la que se encontraban los pescados me heló la sangre a los 10 años xd.

Como buen jugador que soy obviamente intenté continuar la misión pese al enorme peligro que me suponía un monstruo como el Lagiacrus en la que era literalmente la quinta misión del juego, así que intenté ir de la manera más sigilosa posible yendo directamente hacía su cara. No sé porque pero en mi mente de niño pensé que si lo derrotaba ahí mismo me iba a pasar el juego. Obviamente eso no ocurrió porque en cuanto esa cosa me vio me mató de un golpe.
Así que ahí me veían, estando casi media hora en modo sigiloso tratando de conseguir pescado porque el desgraciado Lagiacrus no paraba de detectar mi presencia aún si me yo me encontraba en la otra punta del escenario. Eventualmente completé la misión, pero me juré a mi mismo que cuando tuviera mejor equipamiento volvería a a enfrentarme con el solo para poder vengarme por todos los problemas que me hizo pasar.
Así que luego de un mes de progresión en la historia del juego llegó el momento que tanto estaba esperando: La misión oficial de cazar al Lagiacrus ya estaba disponible.
Así que me llevé mi mejor armadura, mi mejor arma, y mis mejores objetos para embarcarme en lo que sería mi venganza. En cuanto me encontré con el Lagiacrus frente a frente lo primero que noté fue que no se encontraba en su clásico entorno acuático sino que estaba en tierra firme, por lo que confiado me eché hacía adelante sin miedo a enfrentarme a dicha criatura con la esperanza de ser el verdugo que lo mandaría de una vez por todas al cielito.
Al final todo fue al revés...
Vamos a ser claros, el Lagiacrus no es un enemigo precisamente fácil pero tampoco uno tan complicado, es solo que sus patrones de ataque eran demasiado para mi mente de 10 años. En tierra sus ataques eran mas bien normalitos y los podía predecir y esquivar fácilmente, hasta ahí todo bien. El problema llegó cuando se sumergió en el agua y no me quedó de otra más que seguirlo. Ahí fue donde el infierno comenzó.
Embestidas a velocidades inhumanas, ataques ridículamente fuertes, una velocidad estúpidamente alta para un bicho con patas tan cortas, y otros factores fueron los que me hicieron el combate imposible de ganar. Y teniendo en cuenta que ese bicho era capaz de cargarse con energía eléctrica y lanzarme rayos hasta morir, el panorama no lucía nada bien para mí.

Eventualmente después de haber dejado de jugar como por dos meses por culpa de la rabia, volví a enfrentarme al Lagiacrus y le gané a la primera XD.
Sentí una satisfacción enorme cuando por fin pude derrotarlo, ya que este desgraciado era el que sin duda más Game overs me había dado en todo el juego, por lo que verlo todo tieso en el suelo me hizo sentir como si hubiera superado algún problema personal.
Así fue como esta lagartija super desarrollada lanzadora de rayos y causante de terremotos se ganó un odio profundo en mi corazón...A la vez que también se ganó mi cariño.
No me pregunten porque, pero el combate en en que le gané al Lagiacrus es sin duda uno de los mejores que he tenido jamás en un videojuego. Todos mis sentidos estaban alertas para poder esquivar y contraatacar de forma eficiente a esa bestia, y curiosamente parecía que el Lagiacrus también estaba dándolo todo porque estaba utilizando patrones de ataque más variados y complejos que los de las primeras veces que me enfrenté con el.
Fue una batalla encarnizada en la cual me alcé con la victoria, pero fue precisamente gracias a esto que también le agarré cariño al Lagiacrus, pues al haberme hecho superar un límite que nunca pensé que tenía me enseñó que incluso los más grandes problemas tienen una solución.
Además de que su diseño está genial, es decir solo miren esto por favor.

I'm making this post to be part of the Ready Payer Hive initiative, which this time consists of choosing our most hated character in video games.
I'm going to be honest here, in all these 7 years of my life that I've been playing video games I've never met a character that made me hate him/her as such. Yes I have seen some that have made me angry but not one that earned total hatred xd.
So I started to rummage through the deepest corners of my mind in order to find some memory that could make this decision easier for me. And it was in the middle of all that brainstorming that a name ended up coming to my head with surprising clarity: The Lagiacrus.

For those who don't know, the Lagiacrus is a monster belonging to the well-known Monster Hunter saga. As the name of the saga indicates, all the games (with the exception of a few) consist of placing you in the shoes of a hunter whose only apparent purpose in life is to hunt monsters for materials like there's no tomorrow.
With this I have just summarized the whole saga in a very basic and accurate way, so I don't think it's necessary to go longer xd.
So, when I was about 9-10 years old, my brother installed Monster Hunter Tri on my Wii. At that time I was not at all familiar with the saga or with that kind of games so when I went to play it I was a little skeptical. And in the end the skepticism only lasted about half an hour because as soon as I was released to explore the first map in search of resources I was in love with the game XD.
Everything was going well in my game, it was still a little complicated to master the combat mechanics but I guess that's because my reflexes when I was 10 years old were nothing compared to what I have now. Anyway, at one point I was sent to do a mandatory mission to advance in the story which consisted in getting fish. As soon as I saw it I thought it was a piece of cake so I went to the indicated area to get my fish and leave.
And my god what I found there was not a fish, but a Lagiacrus.
To put you a bit in context, the Lagiacrus is supposed to be the main enemy of the game since apparently this aquatic beast is responsible for the constant earthquakes in your village, so seeing such a thing swimming so calmly just by the area where the fish were located froze my blood xd.

As a good gamer I obviously tried to continue the mission despite the enormous danger a monster like the Lagiacrus posed to me in what was literally the fifth mission of the game, so I tried to go as stealthy as possible: going straight for its face. I don't know why but in my childish mind I thought that if I defeated it right there I was going to pass the game. Obviously that didn't happen because as soon as that thing saw me it killed me with one blow.
So there I was, being almost half an hour in stealth mode trying to get fish because the wretched Lagiacrus kept detecting my presence even if I was on the other side of the stage. Eventually I completed the mission, but I swore to myself that when I had better equipment I would go back to face him so I could get revenge for all the trouble he put me through.
So after a month of progression in the game's story came the moment I had been waiting for: The official mission to hunt the Lagiacrus was now available.
So I took my best armor, my best weapon, and my best items to embark on what would be my revenge. As soon as I met the Lagiacrus face to face, the first thing I noticed was that it was not in its classic aquatic environment but on dry land, so I confidently went forward without fear to face the creature in the hope of being the executioner that would send it once and for all to heaven.
In the end, everything was the other way around...
Let's be clear, the Lagiacrus is not exactly an easy enemy but not a complicated one either, it's just that its attack patterns were too much for my 10 year old mind. On land its attacks were rather normal and I could predict and dodge them easily, so far so good. The problem came when he dived into the water and I had no choice but to follow him. That's where the hell started.
Lunges at inhuman speeds, ridiculously strong attacks, a stupidly high speed for a creature with such short legs, and other factors were the ones that made the fight impossible for me to win. And considering that this thing was capable of charging itself with electrical energy and throwing lightning bolts at me until dead, the outlook didn't look good for me at all.

Eventually after having stopped playing for like two months because of rage, I went back to face Lagiacrus and beat him the first time XD.
I felt a huge satisfaction when I was finally able to defeat him, as this bastard was the one that without a doubt had given me the most Game overs in the whole game, so seeing him all stiff on the ground made me feel like I had overcome some personal problem.
That's how this super-developed lightning throwing, earthquake-causing lizard earned a deep hatred in my heart...While also earning my affection.
Don't ask me why, but the fight in which I beat the Lagiacrus is without a doubt one of the best I've ever had in a video game. All my senses were alert to be able to efficiently dodge and counterattack that beast, and curiously it seemed that the Lagiacrus was also giving its all because it was using more varied and complex attack patterns than the first times I faced it.
It was a fierce battle in which I emerged victorious, but it was precisely thanks to this that I also grew fond of the Lagiacrus, for having made me overcome a limit I never thought I had taught me that even the biggest problems have a solution.
Plus his design looks great, I mean just look at this please.

Definitivamente un monstruo espectacular y poderoso. A cualquiera le cuesta cazarlo. Que lástima que el combate en el agua no fuera introducido de nuevo en los juegos siguientes, y por eso el Lagiacruz sigue sin reaparecer.
Nunca le he agarrado el tranquilo al Monster Hunter, mira que le he dado oportunidades pero de verdad que no me acaba de enganchar, obviamente jugué a este y conozco a ese lagarto gigante que rivaliza con Godzilla, pero nunca llegué tan lejos como para realmente matarlo, pues como te digo los MH no son lo mio, no tiene que ver con la dificultad ni nada por el estilo, simplemente no es mi tipo de juego, pero me alegra que por otra parte tú te hayas alzado victorioso contra una pelea que realmente suena difícil.
Nah no te preocupes. Incluso los propios jugadores de Monster Hunter reconocen que es un juego que te gusta o no te gusta, no hay punto medio.
Y el combate créeme que era difícil, el hijo de su lagarta madre del lagiacrus se la pasaba espameando ataques a distancia por lo que no me le podía acercar tanto como me gustaría. Pero mediante mucho intentar le gané xd
