Life lessons

When I was young I used to get upset when something didn't work for me or when things did not go my way. When very young I'd be so frustrated that I'd cry or get very angry but that changed as I got older, I'd still allow it to affect me though and it meant I could not find a way forward. I didn't know until much later that it was wrong of me to have that attitude.

I remember when I began to change my thinking.

I was at school and found myself in that usual place of not being able to see a way out of my own attitude but a teacher took me aside and told me that instead of retreating into such dark places I should always point myself towards the sunshine because it's when I do that the shadows will fall behind me and I could find better ways to do things. I was about 10 years-old when she said that and I never forgot it to this day and right away I began to look for better ways to act when things went wrong.

I came across a quote that said a similar thing much later but I cannot remember who wrote it. Seeing it reminded me of that day at school though and all the things that have happened in my life because I followed my school teacher's advice which has been one of the most valuable things I learned from school.
