En casa somos solo 3 y tratamos, a pesar de la realidad que se impone, tener tiempo para compartir juntos, sobre todo con nuestra hija adolescente.
Ella no es de salir mucho, a decir verdad, es demasiado hogareña, raro a esa edad. Como todos, o casi todos los adolescentes, adora las pantallas. Así que de vez en cuando hacemos nuestra tanda de juegos de mesa.
Cuando yo tenía 12 años aprendí con los vecinos de los bajos de mi casa a jugar "Continental", un juego con naipes americanos. Ellos eran 6 personas, jugábamos casi todas las noches. Adoraba esas horas de sano esparcimiento. Nunca olvidé el juego y tal como lo aprendí, se lo enseñé a mi esposo e hija.
Se juega con dos mazos de cartas y consiste en repartir a cada jugador una cantidad de naipes de manera ascendente, desde 6 en la primera mano, hasta 12 en la última. En cada ronda cada jugador debe completar un reto. El número de cartas en cada una corresponde al desafío, 6 cartas para 2 tríos, 7 para un trío y una escalera, 8 para 2 escaleras, 9 serían 3 tríos, 10 para 1 escalera y 2 tríos, 11 para 2 escaleras y 1 trío, 12 para 3 escaleras y por último se reparten nuevamente 12 para 4 tríos.
Las cartas que sobran del mazo se ponen boca abajo y en cada turno el jugador roba una y tiene que botar otra boca arriba. Si algún otro jugador necesita la que ha sido botada, puede "pedirla", pero debe robar otra del mazo, como castigo por no ser su turno. Si a varios les interesa el naipe botado, le tocará al que primero esté en el orden de juego. Solo estará exento del castigo si es el jugador de turno quien roba el naipe botado.
A medida que el juego avanza se va complejizando. Quien complete primero el reto "se planta", pone sus cartas mostrándolas en las formas del desafío que corresponda en cada ronda. Si se queda sin cartas es ganador de la mano, si no, robará e irá poniendo cartas en sus tríos o escaleras o en las de otro jugador que también se haya plantado. Así seguiremos jugando hasta que alguno se quede sin naipes. El ganador se anota un cero y a los demás se les cuenta la puntuación de las cartas que tengan. Se cuenta el valor nominal de cada una de las numéricas, las figuras valen 10, los ases 20 y los jokers 50 puntos respectivamente. Gana quien menos puntos acumule.
Los tríos deben coincidir en número o letras, pero no en palos. Las escaleras, por el contrario, deben ser del mismo palo siempre en forma consecutiva y como mínimo 4 cartas. En ambos casos pueden ser más cartas siempre que cumplan con los requisitos. Los jokers sustituyen cualquier naipe.
Es un juego largo, siempre demoramos más de 1 hora, pero es muy divertido y algo diferente.

Cómo pueden observar, este juego lo ganó mi hija (la O es de ella) con 2 récords incluídos!!! La puntuación más baja obtenida en toda la historia de nuestros juegos y 5 ceros consecutivos!!!😱 La alumna superó a la maestra. 😆

It is played with two decks of cards and consists of dealing each player a number of cards in ascending order, from 6 in the first hand to 12 in the last. In each round each player must complete a challenge. The number of cards in each round corresponds to the challenge, 6 cards for 2 trios, 7 for a trio and a straight, 8 for 2 straights, 9 would be 3 trios, 10 for 1 straight and 2 trios, 11 for 2 straights and 1 trio, 12 for 3 straights and finally 12 are dealt again for 4 trios.
The cards left over from the deck are placed face down and in each turn the player draws one card and has to discard another one face up. If any other player needs the card that has been discarded, he can "ask for it", but he must draw another one from the deck, as a punishment for not being his turn. If several players are interested in the discarded card, it will be the turn of the player who is first in the order of play. He will only be exempt from the penalty if it is the player whose turn it is to draw the discarded card.
As the game progresses, it becomes more complex. Whoever completes the challenge first "stands", lays down his cards by showing them in the appropriate challenge shapes for each round. If he runs out of cards, he is the winner of the hand; if not, he will draw and put cards in his trios or straights or in those of another player who has also stood. This way we continue playing until one of us runs out of cards. The winner scores a zero and the others are counted the score of the cards they have. The face value of each of the numerical cards is counted, the figures are worth 10, the aces 20 and the jokers 50 points respectively. The winner is the one who accumulates the least points.
The trios must coincide in number or letters, but not in suits. The straights, on the other hand, must always be of the same suit consecutively and at least 4 cards. In both cases there can be more cards as long as they meet the requirements. Jokers replace any card.
It is a long game, we always take more than 1 hour, but it is a lot of fun and something different.

I didn't know the "Sequence", I looked it up and it looks super fun, I think I'll like to play it. The "Continental" is also more fun the more participants. Those family games look like ours when we go to visit our families. We play a lot of dominoes.
