¡Hola Gente Bella! Espero hayan tenido una maravillosa semana. Espero hoy traigan su mejor ánimo puesto y no olviden colocarse en el rostro una hermosa sonrisa. Ajusten sus cinturones (o al menos sus trenzas de zapatos), y prepárense para un genial recorrido. Hoy tendremos mucho que ver. Sabían ustedes que, "¡No en vano se nace al pie de un volcán!" Eso lo dijo el poeta Mariano Melgar. Pero, ¿Por qué?
Pues así es, ese es el lema que algunos de mis amigos peruanos citaban con mucho orgullo, más específicamente, los arequipeños. No fue hasta visitar la "Ciudad Blanca", como muchos la conocen, que entendí esto. Algo que sí era muy evidente es el alto sentido de pertenencia que este trío arequipeño tenía. Luego comprobé que es algo típico de todos ellos, en Arequipa.
Arequipa, es a mí parecer, una hermosa ciudad. Por encima se le nota lo llena que está de historia. Pues muchos sitios aún conservan su estilo colonial. Es una ciudad que invita a ser descubierta. En mi estadía en Perú fue uno de los primeros lugares que me motivaron a conocer. Y agradezco no haber perdido la oportunidad.
Antes de comenzar con mi recorrido, quiero presentarles a mis tres guías locales, como sí con uno no fuese suficiente jajaja, todos orgullosamente arequipeños, y muy buenas personas. Y ustedes se preguntaran ¿Por qué me empeño tanto en eso del orgullo arequipeño? Pues resulta que para muchos de ellos, habitantes de esta ciudad, Arequipa es como una República Independiente, ellos no dicen soy Peruano, dicen soy Arequipeño. Cómo si no fuese lo mismo.

Claro que saben que son peruanos, pero su orgullo es algo histórico, según me explicaron ellos, y eso viene desde la era de los libertadores. Dicen que, si no fuese por ellos otros países se hubieran quedado con Arequipa y con aún mucho más territorio peruano. Que obvio, gracias a ellos no fue así y que solitos ganaron su libertad. Esto históricamente los ha dejado como gente luchadora y decidida.
Lo que nos lleva a su emblemático y principal atractivo; su volcán, El Misti, a los pies del cual está establecida esta hermosa ciudad. Es por eso que tienden a decir: ¡No en vano se nace al pie de un volcán! Lo que significa que ellos destacan del resto, y por eso son luchadores natos. Cómo les dije, esto es algo histórico. Pero lo cierto para mí, es que son muy buenos amigos, gente alegre y hospitalaria.
Y esto los hace excelentes guías, aunque ni sea su profesión. Se esmeran por hacerte ver su cultura, por qué conozcas su ciudad, pruebes todos sus platillos y te diviertas al máximo. Se conocen cada rincón, de que va cada cosa y como debe hacerse, o por qué. Quieren que te lleves la buena impresión que ellos mismos tienen de su ciudad. Y esto es algo que admiró, así se vea algo de orgullo en todo ello. A mí parecer es bueno.
Bien, ¡A lo que vinimos! Primero a conocer un poco más de la ciudad, esos lugares emblemáticos, para quienes aman la arquitectura, allá podrán encontrar muchos buenos ejemplos de la misma. Su parte más colonial es el centro, con iglesias y otros lugares donde destaca su arquitectura. Actualmente muchos se han convertido en sitios turísticos.
En este recorrido también se encontraba una amiga venezolana, lo cual fue super porque no tendría que quedarme sola en el hotel. Aunque casi ni pasábamos allí. Además me encanta viajar con amigos. Buscamos un pequeño, pero limpio y acogedor hotel, donde pudiéramos descansar. Éste ubicado en la Av. Dolores la cual es muy concurrida por estar llena de buenos restaurantes y sitios nocturnos. Además que la hacía muy segura de recorrer aún a pie.
Probamos cada cosa que ellos nos sugerían, lo gracioso es que tuvimos que esperar ciertos días para probar algunos, en Arequipa tienen días específicos dónde se come algún plato típico. Por ejemplo ellos nos hablaron mucho del Adobo Arequipeño, que no es precisamente un condimento. Es como una especie de guiso o estofado de cerdo con abundante líquido muy bien condimentado y aliñado con cebolla y pimienta dulce. La cosa es que se come ¡solo los domingos!

Así que nos tocó esperar, además si eso no les parece extraño, deben saber que es un desayuno. Sí, tal cual. Así también hay otras comidas típicas de solo los jueves y otra de los lunes. Pero nosotros fuimos fin de semana jajaja. A mí parecer, estaba súper rico, ellos le acompañan con pan. Y lo usan tipo para quitar la resaca, por eso se vende desde la amanecida del domingo.
También otros de los platos que me gustaron; fueron el Chupe de Camarón, Caldo Blanco y el Rocoto Relleno, estaba todo tan bueno que ni fotos tome. También probé Locro de Cerdo y un Pastel de Papas, pero no me gustaron tanto. En fin volvamos al recorrido.
La mañana siguiente de haber llegado fuimos al centro de la ciudad, entramos en un lugar llamado Claustros de la Compañía, es un lugar muy antiguo pero muy bien conservado, en la actualidad esta lleno de tiendas con artesanía local y algunas cafeterías. Es muy visitado por turistas, de hecho ese día habían algunos grupos de franceses. Ahí tomamos nuestro desayuno.

Luego avanzamos hasta la Plaza de Armas, cada ciudad en Perú tiene una. Pero en esta se ubica la muy conocida Cátedral de Arequipa. Me comentaban mis guías arequipeños que aquí fue donde se fundó la ciudad. El lugar es amplio y está rodeado de mucha arquitectura de por allá, de esos siglos antiguos jajaja. Es hermoso el lugar y da para hacer miles de tomas fotográficas, por la noche se ilumina la catedral lo que la hace mucho mejor.
En nuestro city tour con amigos locales, hicimos una pequeña parada en el Famoso Puente Grau, y es que al parecer no podía faltarnos una foto en este lugar, ellos decían que está es una muy típica foto de todo el que visita Arequipa. Y es que tiene de fondo al famoso Misti, que es el volcán más representativo de la ciudad, ya que en total son tres los volcanes que la rodean. En realidad es una hermosa vista.

Y finalmente, pasamos al Mirador de Yanahuara, que no podía faltar en el recorrido por la ciudad. Sé que suena complicado el nombre, pero fue uno de los que más rápido pude aprender. Aplique mi "método de similitud y asociación", ¿que con que se come eso? Bueno eso significa que yo busco similitudes de cosas conocidas para asociarlas y así no olvidarlo. Jajajaja me ha funcionado muy bien todos estos años. Para retener este nombre tan peculiar uno dos palabras conocidas por mí: Ya y Nagüara. Si sé fijan se escribe diferente pero se pronuncia igual. Y así ¡No lo olvidaré jamás!
Éste sitio tiene un lindo paisaje, aquí pudimos adquirir mucha artesanía local, esos recuerditos que me encanta llevarme para coleccionar de cada lugar que visitó. El lugar está muy bien conservado, como todo, en Perú los lugares turísticos se mantienen muy bien, según he visto. Y eso es algo admirable porque invita a conocer. Me sorprendió mucho ya que generalmente cuando uno piensa en Perú, solo imagina el Ceviche y el Machu Picchu. Pero Perú es mucho más que eso, y termina sorprendiendote, como a mí.

Yo aproveché y me traje algunas cositas, unas para regalar y otras para mí. Además como está fue mi segunda visita califique para obtener "Mi Pasaporte Arequipeño", ese fue un regalo de mis amigos guías, dijeron que me lo gane. Así que yo feliz. Y venía hasta con dinero arequipeño, que solo me servirá para el recuerdo.

Visitamos un curioso museo, también nos fuimos a pasear en cuatrimotos en Sabandia, es un lugar campestre en las afueras de la ciudad con distintos paseos. El aire que se respira es tan agradable. Aprovechamos para las fotitos y divertirnos.

Finalizamos celebrando, en un lugar muy conocido llamado Rustica, tienen varios alrededor de Perú, también había visitado el de Lima. Pero son de un ambiente agradable, fiestero con luces de colores y música bailable aunque no hay pista para hacerlo. Tiene asados y todo tipos de cócteles y bebidas. Ahí celebramos la amistad y nos relajamos después de tantos recorridos.
Soy una viajera por naturaleza, pero amo cuando comparto este tipo de cosas con seres queridos, en este caso con amigos. Ellos hacen más divertido y alegre todo. Todos guardaremos siempre el recuerdo de esos momentos. Asi que festejamos esa amistad.
Y fue necesaria está celebración para al día siguiente poder probar el Adobo, ellos dicen que es así como debe hacerse. La pasamos genial, nos reímos y divertimos mucho. Hicimos grandes amigos y nos quedamos con buenos recuerdos.
Mis visitas a "La Ciudad Blanca", siempre fueron muy bonitos. Por cierto existe un recorrido llamado la Ruta del Sillar en dónde se explica mejor porque le llaman así a Arequipa. Lo que mis amigos me contaron es que; el Sillar es una especie de roca volcánica, pero está es blanca. En esa ruta explican todo su funcionamiento. Pero la pudimos apreciar en la artesanía local, muchas piezas son fabricadas con Sillar. Y por ser Arequipa una ciudad rodeada de volcanes tiene los mayores depósitos de esta roca blanca. Por eso es llamada así, "La Ciudad Blanca"

En cuanto al museo y otras cosillas por ahí, les estaré contando en la próxima, espero les haya gustado este recorrido y si algún día se animan y pasan por Perú, puedan visitar Arequipa, vale totalmente el desvío. ¡Hay mucho más por ver!

Hello Beautiful People! I hope you had a wonderful week. I hope you're in the best of spirits today and don't forget to put a beautiful smile on your face. Fasten your belts (or at least your shoe braids), and get ready for a great tour. We'll have a lot to see today. Did you know that, "it is not for nothing that you are born at the foot of a volcano!" So said the poet Mariano Melgar. But why?
Well, that's right, that is the motto that some of my Peruvian friends quoted with great pride, more specifically, the Arequipa people. It wasn't until I visited the "White City", as many know it, that I understood this. Something that was very evident was the high sense of belonging that this Arequipa trio had. I later found out that this is typical of all of them in Arequipa.
Arequipa, in my opinion, is a beautiful city. Above you can see how full of history it is. For many places still retain their colonial style. It is a city that invites to be discovered. During my stay in Peru, it was one of the first places that motivated me to visit. And I am thankful I did not miss the opportunity.
Before I start my tour, I want to introduce you to my three local guides, as if one was not enough hahaha, all proudly Arequipeños, and very good people. And you may wonder why I am so insistent on the pride of Arequipa? Well, it turns out that for many of them, inhabitants of this city, Arequipa is like an independent republic, they do not say I am Peruvian, they say I am Arequipeño. As if it were not the same thing.

Of course they know they are Peruvians, but their pride is something historical, as they explained to me, and that comes from the era of the liberators. They say that, if it were not for them, other countries would have kept Arequipa and even more Peruvian territory. Obviously, thanks to them it was not like that and they won their freedom on their own. This historically has left them as a fighting and determined people.
Which brings us to its emblematic and main attraction; its volcano, The Misti, at the foot of which this beautiful city is established. That is why they tend to say: It is not in vain that one is born at the foot of a volcano! Which means that they stand out from the rest, and that is why they are born fighters. As I said, this is something historical. But the truth for me is that they are very good friends, cheerful and hospitable people.
And this makes them excellent guides, even if it is not their profession. They do their best to make you see their culture, to make you know their city, taste all their dishes and have a great time. They know every corner, what each thing is about and how it should be done, or why. They want you to take with you the good impression they themselves have of their city. And this is something I admire, even if you see some pride in it all. I think it's good.
Well, let's get down to business! First to know a little more of the city, those emblematic places, for those who love architecture, there you can find many good examples of it. Its most colonial part is the center, with churches and other places where its architecture stands out. Currently many have become tourist sites.
A venezuelan friend was also on this tour, which was great because I wouldn't have to stay alone in the hotel. Although we almost didn't even hang out there. Besides, I love traveling with friends. We looked for a small, but clean and cozy hotel, where we could rest. This one is located on Dolores Avenue which is very busy because it is full of good restaurants and night spots. It also made it very safe to walk around even on foot.
We tried everything they suggested, the funny thing is that we had to wait certain days to try some, in Arequipa they have specific days where they eat some typical dish. For example they told us a lot about Adobo Arequipeño, which is not exactly a condiment. It is like a kind of stew or pork stew with plenty of liquid, very well seasoned and seasoned with onion and sweet pepper. The thing is that it is eaten only on Sundays!

So we had to wait, plus if that doesn't seem strange to you, you should know it's a breakfast. Yes, that's right. There are also other typical meals only on Thursdays and another one on Mondays. But we were there on weekends hahaha. In my opinion, it was super tasty, they accompany it with bread. And they use it to take away the hangover, that's why it's sold since Sunday morning.
Other dishes that I liked were Chupe de Camarón, Caldo Blanco and Rocoto Relleno, it was so good that I didn't even take pictures. I also tried Locro de Cerdo and Pastel de Papas, but I didn't like them as much. Anyway, let's go back to the tour.
The morning after arriving we went to the center of the city, we entered a place called Claustros de la Compañía, it is a very old but very well preserved place, nowadays it is full of stores with local handicrafts and some cafes. It is very visited by tourists, in fact that day there were some French groups. There we had our breakfast.

Then we advanced to the Plaza de Armas, every city in Peru has one. But in this one is located the well known Cathedral of Arequipa. My Arequipa guides told me that this is where the city was founded. The place is spacious and is surrounded by a lot of architecture from those old centuries hahaha. It is a beautiful place and gives to take thousands of pictures, at night the cathedral is illuminated which makes it much better.
In our city tour with local friends, we made a small stop at the famous Grau Bridge, and it seems that we could not miss a photo in this place, they said that this is a very typical photo of everyone who visits Arequipa. And it has in the background the famous Misti, which is the most representative volcano of the city, since in total there are three volcanoes that surround it. It is really a beautiful view.

And finally, we went to the Mirador de Yanahuara, which could not be missing in the tour of the city. I know the name sounds complicated, but it was one of the fastest I could learn. I applied my "method of similarity and association", what does that mean? Well that means that I look for similarities of known things to associate them so I don't forget it. Hahahaha it has worked very well for me all these years. To retain this peculiar name, I combine two words known to me: Ya and Nagüara. If You notice, is it spelled differently but pronounced the same. And so I will never forget it!
This place has a beautiful landscape, here we were able to acquire many local handicrafts, those little souvenirs that I love to take with me to collect from every place I visit. The place is very well preserved, like everything else, in Peru the tourist places are very well maintained, as I have seen. And that is something admirable because it invites to know. I was very surprised because usually when one thinks of Peru, one only imagines Ceviche and Machu Picchu. But Peru is much more than that, and it ends up surprising you, as it did me.

I took the opportunity and brought some little things, some to give as gifts and others for myself. Also as this was my second visit I qualified to get "My Arequipa Passport", that was a gift from my guide friends, they said I earned it. So I was happy. And I even came with Arequipa money, which will only serve as a souvenir.

We visited a curious museum, we also went on ATV rides in Sabandia, it is a country place on the outskirts of the city with different rides. The air is so pleasant. We took the opportunity to take pictures and have fun.

We finished celebrating, in a very well known place called Rustica, they have several around Peru, I had also visited the one in Lima. But they have a nice, party atmosphere with colored lights and danceable music although there is no dance floor. They have barbecues and all kinds of cocktails and drinks. There we celebrated friendship and relaxed after so many tours.
I am a traveler by nature, but I love when I share this kind of things with loved ones, in this case with friends. They make everything more fun and joyful. We all will always keep the memory of those moments. So let's celebrate that friendship.
And this celebration was necessary to be able to taste the Adobo the next day, they say that this is how it should be done. We had a great time, laughed and had a lot of fun. We made great friends and had great memories.
My visits to "The White City" were always very nice. By the way, there is a tour called the Sillar Route where it is better explained why Arequipa is called this way. What my friends told me is that the Sillar is a kind of volcanic rock, but it is white. In that route they explain all its operation. But we could appreciate it in the local handicrafts, many pieces are made with Sillar. And because Arequipa is a city surrounded by volcanoes, it has the largest deposits of this white rock. That is why it is called "The White City".
