Over times now, there have been a serious misconception about the character and the nature of God, according to the old testament scripture of the Bible, so many incidents occur and we attribute all to be the act of God both bad and good, both destruction and safety.
We believe that all the calamity that took place in the old testament sometimes through the mouth of the prophet of old are all God's act. Even up till now, when we see something negative happen to someone we think is a bad person or someone that doesn't believe in Christ Jesus, some still believe that it is the anger of God on such a person.
The big question is does God really involved in calamity, destructions, killing of people and punishing people? Is it in the character of God to destroy or kill people?
Between the prophets, the law and Jesus who should explain God well to us according to the scripture?
No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him .
John 1:18 KJV
According to this portion of the Bible, it means that only Jesus who is in the bosom of the father that can explain God more to us. Also this scripture also tells us that no man hath seen God at anytime, meaning that Moses, Elijah, Abraham, Noah and even Adam and all other prophets of old never saw God at anytime. Only Jesus can tell us the true nature and character of God when it comes to relating with man.
And when his disciples James and John saw this, they said, Lord, wilt thou that we command fire to come down from heaven, and consume them, even as Elias did? But he turned, and rebuked them, and said, Ye know not what manner of spirit ye are of. For the Son of man is not come to destroy men's lives, but to save them. And they went to another village.
Luke 9:54-56 KJV
In this other scripture explains to us the character of Jesus when it comes to killing men, for you don't know what manner of spirit you are from, he further said that the son of man did not come to destroy men's life. Throughout the earthly ministry of Jesus, Him never called fire to consume any man nor take any man's life because of the spirit of God that was in Him.
Yes God is sovereign, God is all powerful, God knows everything, and God can do everything nothing is impossible with him. At the same time, it is not in the character of God to do everything that is why even at creation, when he finish creating He left some part of the job for Adam to do which was the naming of the animals not that God could not name the animals but it not in His character to do everything.
Just like in the case of salvation, it is the will of God for all men to be saved but God cannot force any man to be save. Our God is love, in Him is no darkness at all, God is not a killer, wherever they is killing,destruction and calamity God is not involved but whenever there is safety, rescue, then God is involved because God is always out to save men's life not to destroy them.
The devil from the beginning has been the destroyer, he uses the law of sin and dead to destroy men's life whenever they disobey God, don't that after creation God handed over the earth to man, when man disobey God man handed over the earth to the devil, right that time till the resurrection of Christ was in charge, causing all manner of destruction, calamity and death all over the earth.
The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.
John 10:10 KJV
God will not and never be involved in destruction, because the God is interested in every soul irrespective of who you are what you do and you see Him. Don't forget that God loves you.
