"Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, separated unto the gospel of God, (which he had promised afore by his prophets in the holy scriptures) concerning his son Jesus Christ our lord, which was made of the seed of David according to the flesh."
Jesus is the focus of the gospel, the gospel is not in the dead of Christ, but the gospel is in the resurrection of Christ from the dead, the gospel is not about things, the gospel is about faith in Christ which equals salvation. the promise of God to Abraham was life through Jesus which is the center of the gospel, this life can only be found in the person of Jesus Christ, God has packaged eternal life in the personality of Jesus Christ, the of God toward is life. The gospel of Jesus Christ is therefore the will of God towards man, because eternal life is displayed in the resurrection Christ from the dead.
The word ' separated ' as found in the our text today means to mark boundaries or to make distinction. The gospel of God is concerning the son of God, Jesus Christ. The promise of God to man was Christ, because God knew that there is no way man could be save outside Jesus. All thole testament saint were recognized by their faith in the son of God, Jesus Christ --(Hebrews 11:1-14)
Jesus is the voice of God to us, God will never speak to us outside the scripture. Jesus is the thread that runs through the entire scripture ---Luke 24:25-27 reads then he said up them, "O fools,and slow of Heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken : ought not Christmas to have suffered these things and to enter into glory? And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself."
According to the scripture, Jesus, after resurrection from the dead had to spend time here on earth to explain to his disciples all that the prophets and the law which represents Moses had spoken.
These was because there are more mysteries in his resurrection then his incarnation. Everything beautiful that the prophets spoke about is in his resurrection from the dead. This is why Paul who was not among the disciples of Jesus was set aside to explain the gospel of God which he had promised afore by his prophets.
Jesus is known through out the scripture by his life not his death, this is because the gospel is not in not in the death but in the resurrection from the dead. Believe the gospel, because when you believe the gospel eternal life is activated in you. Eternal life becomes a reality by the death, burial, the resurrection and the ascension of Christ. This is what makes the gospel a good news.
