What a wonderful God we have . . . who so wonderfully comforts and strengthens us . . .

Indisputably, the Bible teaches that we will prevail over bereavement. "wailing will last for a night, the Psalmist stated, but in the morning joy cometh." Self-pity can bring no lasting comfort. The truth is, this is only going to add to your suffering. And unremitting sorrow will give you no comfort in itself, for sorrow causes pain. Sorrow, or mourning, provides a built-in comfort as it is borne in a Christian manner. Blessed are those who weep, for they shall be comforted. "There is comfort in sorrow, for we know that with us is Christ." He said, "Lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the universe." If we don't have to endure it alone, misery is enduring; and the more sympathetic the presence, the less intense the pain.
