For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters. Romans 8:29
Sanctification is the working of the Holy Spirit within believers which conforms them to the likeness of Christ. Sanctification is an on-going, life-long process. The destiny of a child of God is to be like Jesus.
The word “holy” is the English translation of the Hebrew word קדוש (kadosh) found in the Old Testament or the Greek word ἅγιος (hagios) found in the New Testament. The central concept of “holiness” is separateness. The Greek word hagios is frequently translated “saint” because God's people are spiritually separate from everybody else in this world. The saints are called to be “different from the world” because we are “like the Lord.”
RENEWING YOUR MIND
Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will. Romans 12:2
Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word, Ephesians 5:25-27
When a sinner who was separated from God is born-again, he/she is a new creature in Christ, made spiritually alive and reconciled to God. But there is an ongoing battle that takes place between the flesh and the spirit – the old nature and the new nature – and that battle takes place in the mind. That is why the process of sanctification must include the renewing of our mind by washing away sinful thoughts and replacing them with the Word of God.
CONFESSING SIN
Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, Hebrews 12:1
Although as Christians the penalty for our sins was paid in full by the atoning work of Jesus on the cross, we need the power of the Holy Spirit in our lives to win the daily battle against the world, the flesh and the devil. When we give into temptation and sin, our fellowship with God is hindered and we are subject to his divine discipline. In order to restore our relationship with our heavenly Father and receive his blessings we need to repent of our transgressions.
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9
Reading and studying the Bible each day and offering heartfelt repentance when you sin will help transform your life!
