REVELLING

What is revelling?

Some time ago, I went for a birthday party of a Christian brother and the party turned out to be what I least expected.

People drank liquor freely and excessively and danced to loud musics of contemporary Nigerian artistes and engaged in wild and dissolute behaviour.

I didn't stay long before I asked to take my leave.

In scripture, that kind of party or celebration is called revelling. Revelling is one of the works of the flesh listed in Galatians 5.

To revel means to indulge in wild party that are marked by indulgence in things such as drink or promiscuous sex and then raise the roof or rent the air with screams and shouts.

Scripturally, it is indecent for a Christian to indulge in such kind of party because such behaviour is a manifestation of the old nature of sin that is supposed to have to been crucified.

I don't understand why Christian parents become like the world whenever it is their children's birthday party. The children present must not dance to Dbanj or Terry G's songs.

That's revelling. It's a manifestation of the old nature of sin and it's bad. These are issues we rarely hear in church because nobody is paying attention to it to know that wild partying is revelling and unchristian.
