¿Tu ropa sale con olor a humedad? ¿Notas manchas en la lavadora y mal olor? El culpable suele ser el moho y los hongos que se han instalado en los rincones húmedos de este electrodoméstico. Es un problema bastante común, tanto en lavadoras modernas como en las no tan modernas, sobre todo cuando llevan algunos años de uso.
El moho y otros hongos aparecen por la combinación de humedad, calor y falta de ventilación. Después de cada lavado, si cerramos la tapa inmediatamente y dejamos restos de agua y suciedad en la oscuridad, estamos convirtiendo la lavadora en el invernadero perfecto para que las esporas de moho se multipliquen. Esto puede traer varias consecuencias, desde daños en tus prendas hasta problemas respiratorios si sufres de alergias.
La solución no es tan difícil ni se requieren materiales sofisticados. Lo primero que hice para deshacerme de este problema fue preparar una botella de spray con una mezcla de agua y cloro (o lejía, según lo llamen en tu país). Si eres alérgico o no tienes cloro a la mano, el vinagre también puede ser tu aliado en este caso.

Pasado este tiempo, ya se nota cómo algunas manchas han empezado a desaparecer. Para ayudarlas, te recomiendo usar un cepillo como el que ves en la foto, o uno parecido; lo importante es que tenga un mango largo que te ayude a llegar a todos los rincones.
Luego, con una manguera, enjuago el cloro y echo un poco de detergente líquido en el cepillo. Es importante no mezclar nunca el cloro con otros productos de limpieza; siempre hay que enjuagar bien primero. Me gusta seguir con el detergente para que la espuma me ayude a retirar la pelusa que se acumula en las juntas. En este caso, también usé un paño seco para llegar a espacios más reducidos.
En este punto, el moho ha sido completamente eliminado, pero aún quedaban manchas de cal provocadas por el agua y el tiempo. Para esto, utilicé un producto excelente que compré, específico para manchas de cal. ¡Super recomendable! También sirve para los azulejos del baño; si lo encuentran, no duden en comprarlo.
Con este líquido aplicado sobre las manchas, solo hay que restregar con un estropajo metálico, enjuagar y iniciar un programa de autolimpieza para que tu lavadora quede como nueva.
Tips extras:
· A veces, en las rendijas se acumula suciedad que no podemos sacar fácilmente. Mi consejo es que uses un alambre y lo envuelvas en un paño; te será mucho más fácil llegar a esos lugares y dejar todo impecable.
· Para la parte exterior de la lavadora, a menos que tenga una mancha localizada o moho, una solución de agua y vinagre será más que suficiente. Solo rocía y luego pasa un paño seco hasta que quede limpio; no necesitas enjuagar.
Evitar que estos problemas reaparezcan no es complicado solo deja la tapa abierta después de cada lavado para que se ventile completamente. Además, recuerda secar el interior y el exterior (incluidas las juntas de goma) con un paño seco y limpio. Con estos detalles, le darás una larga vida a tu lavadora.

Mold and mildew appear due to the combination of moisture, heat, and lack of ventilation. After each wash, if we close the lid immediately and leave behind residual water and dirt in the dark, we are turning our washer into the perfect greenhouse for mold spores to multiply. This can lead to several consequences, from damaging your clothes to causing respiratory problems if you suffer from allergies.
The solution isn't that difficult and doesn't require sophisticated materials. The first thing I did to get rid of this problem was to prepare a spray bottle with a mixture of water and bleach (as it's called in your country). If you are allergic or don't have bleach on hand, vinegar can also be your ally in this case.
With the washing machine dry and unplugged, I proceed to locate the stains and apply the spray content generously. Then, I close the lid and wait about 20 minutes.
After this time, you can already see how some stains have started to disappear. To help remove them, I recommend using a brush like the one you see in the photo, or a similar one; the important thing is that it has a long handle to help you reach all the corners.
Next, I rinse off the bleach with a hose and pour a little liquid detergent onto the brush. It is important never to mix bleach with other cleaning products; you must always rinse thoroughly first. I like to continue with the detergent so the foam helps me remove the lint that accumulates in the rubber gaskets. Here, I also used a dry cloth to reach tighter spaces.
At this point, the mold has been completely eliminated, but there were still limescale stains caused by water and time. For this, I used this excellent product I bought, which is specifically for limescale stains. Highly recommended! It also works for bathroom tiles; if you find it, don't hesitate to buy it.
With this liquid applied to the stains, you just need to scrub with a steel wool scrubber, rinse, and start a self-cleaning cycle to leave your washing machine like new.
Extra Tips:
· Sometimes, dirt accumulates in crevices that we can't easily remove. My advice is to use a wire and wrap it in a cloth; it will be much easier to reach those spots and leave everything spotless.
· For the exterior of the washing machine, unless it has a specific stain or external mold, a solution of water and vinegar will be more than sufficient. Just spray and then wipe with a dry cloth until it looks clean; you don't need to rinse.
Preventing these problems from coming back isn't complicated; just leave the door open after each wash to allow it to ventilate completely. Also, remember to dry the interior and exterior (including the rubber gaskets) with a dry, clean cloth. Paying attention to these details will give your washing machine a long life.
