La lucha del espíritu navideño de este año fue armar el arbolito y no desistir en el intento.
El año pasado no armé el arbolito de Navidad, así que en su lugar adorné con luces una planta llamada syngonium que se encuentra en la sala de la casa por ser una planta de interior.
No debe recibir luz solar directa. Mas sin embargo, si necesita luz, por ello la sala de la casa es perfecta para ello; la ubicas en un pequeño espacio y con ello ya puede ser feliz.
Pero este año fue diferente.
A inicios de diciembre, mamá me dijo que colocara el arbolito. No lo hice porque estaba trabajando en los pedidos de nuestra tienda Sister Isik, luego pintamos la casa, tratando de terminar antes del 24. Así que en todo este mes solo tuve disponible el día 24.
No es la primera vez que armo el árbol de Navidad el mismo día. Ya es el tercer año consecutivo. Por lo que podría decir que mi tradición personal es armarlo un 24 de diciembre. Algo inusual; sin embargo, al ser pequeño, no lleva tanto trabajo como un árbol grande.
Por ello me puse manos a la obra.

This year's Christmas spirit struggle was putting up the tree and not giving up.
Last year I didn't put up a Christmas tree, so instead I decorated a syngonium plant, which is in the living room because it's an indoor plant, with lights.
It shouldn't receive direct sunlight. However, it does need light, which is why the living room is perfect for it; you place it in a small space and it's happy.
But this year was different.
At the beginning of December, my mom told me to put up the tree. I didn't because I was working on orders for our shop, Sister Isik, then we painted the house, trying to finish before the 24th. So, I only had the 24th free all month.
It's not the first time I've put up the Christmas tree on the same day. It's the third year in a row. So I could say that my personal tradition is to put it up on December 24th. Something unusual; However, being small, it doesn't require as much work as a large tree.
So I got to work.
Busqué el arbolito que estaba en mi habitación. Como el año antepasado lo guardé muy bien, no tenía polvo. Todo lo logré con ropa que no usaba; lo enrollé en ella y eso hizo que todo el polvo cayera sobre la tela y no tocara el árbol.
Este año planeo hacer lo mismo, solo que usaré una bolsa negra también. Estoy segura de que volverá a funcionar de maravilla.

I looked for the little tree that was in my room. Since I stored it very well the year before last, it wasn't dusty. I managed to do it all with some old clothes; I wrapped it up in them, and that made all the dust fall onto the fabric and not touch the tree.
This year I plan to do the same, only I'll use a black bag too. I'm sure it will work perfectly again.
Lo saqué, abrí sus ramas que había recogido para que ocupara menos espacio. Y empecé la búsqueda navideña por excelencia en casa: Encontrar las patas del arbolito.
Mientras pintábamos, mi hermana encontró una. A mitad de año yo había encontrado otra, así que la metí en una gaveta.
Y la otra estaba en alguna parte de la casa que desconocíamos. Cuando encontramos las 3, se las colocamos y empezó el nuevo viaje.

I took it out, opened up the branches I'd gathered to make it take up less space, and began the quintessential Christmas quest at home: finding the tree's legs.
While we were painting, my sister found one. I'd found another one halfway through the year, so I put it in a drawer.
And the third one was somewhere in the house we didn't know. When we found all three, we put them on the tree and the new adventure began.
Adornar un árbol pequeño puede parecer sencillo, pero no es tarea fácil cuando no hay bambalinas de Navidad.
Lo resumiré: Tengo gatos.
Los gatos en años anteriores le han declarado la guerra a otros árboles, así que nos quedamos sin árbol y por eso compré este pequeño árbol. También pasó lo mismo con las bambalinas.

Decorating a small tree might seem simple, but it's not easy when you don't have any Christmas ornaments.
To sum it up: I have cats.
In previous years, the cats have declared war on other trees, so we ended up without a tree, which is why I bought this small one. The same thing happened with the ornaments.
Ahora solo quedan los adornos más fuertes (por fortuna). Sin embargo, con ello no es suficiente.
Así que lo que hicimos fue hacer lazos con fieltro navideño. Mi hermana se encargó de ello.

Now only the sturdiest decorations remain (thankfully). However, that's not enough.
So what we did was make bows out of Christmas felt. My sister took care of that.

And Mom also made a Christmas tree skirt out of felt. I just added a frill that I thought would look nice.

En este momento aún la familia no tenía fe en ese invento navideño. Ni yo, porque, la verdad, el pobre árbol se veía escuálido.
Por lo que empecé a adornarlo. Primero coloque la guirnalda brillante como se supone que debe ir. Se veía feo.
Luego intenté colocarle una que no brilla, pero es pesada y se podía caer.
En este punto deseaba realmente arrancarme el cabello. Aun así me dije que no desistiría. Tomé la guirnalda y la coloqué en forma lineal, de arriba abajo.
Milagrosamente funcionó porque se veía mejor.

At that point, my family still didn't believe in that Christmas invention. Neither did I, because, to be honest, the poor tree looked scrawny.
So I started decorating it. First, I put the sparkly garland on as it was supposed to go. It looked awful.
Then I tried putting on one that didn't sparkle, but it was heavy and could fall over.
At this point, I really wanted to tear my hair out. Even so, I told myself I wouldn't give up. I took the garland and placed it in a straight line, from top to bottom.
Miraculously, it worked because it looked better.

I put up the lights, all the sturdy decorations that have withstood years of abuse. Then, little by little, the ribbons. The tree skirt. And there we had a tree.

Encendí las luces mientras colocaba los adornos, porque hay que entrar en modo "merry christmas" para ello.
Luego, como quería más lazos en las ramas de abajo, le pedí a mi hermana el favor de que hiciera algunos más. Con ello sentí que estaba al fin completo.
Ahora faltaba lo más importante, esa tradición venezolana: El nacimiento.

I turned on the lights while I was putting up the decorations, because you have to get into "Merry Christmas" mode for that.
Then, since I wanted more bows on the lower branches, I asked my sister to make some more. With that, I felt like it was finally complete.
Now all that was missing was the most important thing, that Venezuelan tradition: the Nativity scene.

Ovejas de un lado, y el nacimiento con los Reyes Magos del otro lado del árbol. También puse al Niño Jesús de una vez para que no se me olvide y lo termine perdiendo como sucedió con el anterior nacimiento (sí, soy un desastre con estas cosas; eso de guardarlas por un año hace que se te olvide dónde están).
Solo teníamos la decoración del árbol, y yo necesitaba más Navidad, más merry Christmas.
Así que coloqué en la mesa de centro mi maceta con la planta millonaria y un adorno navideño.

Sheep on one side, and the Nativity scene with the Three Wise Men on the other. I also put the Baby Jesus in right away so I wouldn't forget and end up losing him like I did with the previous Nativity scene (yes, I'm terrible with these things; storing them for a year makes you forget where they are).
We only had the tree decorations, and I needed more Christmas, more Merry Christmas.
So I placed my potted money plant and a Christmas ornament on the coffee table.
También decoré la syngonium como el año pasado con unas luces en color morado.
Eran las que habían, tenemos 3 juegos de luces.
Como verás, también le coloqué el ángel que debería estar en el árbol. Pero mi árbol no soporta tanto peso, y este ángel pesa mucho. Así que lo coloqué en el palo de la syngonium (palo que según yo serviría de soporte para las raíces aéreas, pero no funcionó; ahora es solo decorativo).

I also decorated the syngonium like last year with some purple lights.
They were the only ones we had; we have three sets of lights.
As you can see, I also put the angel on it, which should be on the tree. But my tree can't support that much weight, and this angel is quite heavy. So I put it on the syngonium's stem (a stem that I thought would support the aerial roots, but it didn't work; now it's just decorative).

Ya la casa estaba decorada; participó mamá y mi hermana, así que ahora debíamos ir a la cocina.
Decore porque, aunque no recibimos visitas en estas fechas, me da satisfacción.
En casa no hay niños. Siempre hemos sido mamá, mi hermana y yo. Las niñas éramos nosotras y ya crecimos.
Mamá antes hacía todo esto; ahora yo soy la chica Merry Christmas que lo hace, y me da satisfacción ver el rostro de mamá y de mi hermana al ver las decoraciones; es hermoso.
También acostumbramos a cocinar mucho. Nuestra tradición es hacerlo todo desde cero: el pan de jamón, las hallacas, la ensalada de gallina y lo que se nos ocurra.
Las hallacas ya estaban hechas. Mamá las hizo mientras nosotras nos encargábamos de pintar la casa. Por lo que solo faltaba lo demás.

The house was already decorated; Mom and my sister helped, so now we had to go to the kitchen.
I decorated because, even though we don't have visitors this time of year, it gives me a sense of satisfaction.
There are no children in the house. It's always been just Mom, my sister, and me. We were the little girls, and now we're all grown up.
Mom used to do all this; now I'm the Merry Christmas girl who does it, and it makes me happy to see Mom's and my sister's faces when they see the decorations; it's beautiful.
We also tend to cook a lot. Our tradition is to make everything from scratch: the ham bread, the hallacas, the chicken salad, and whatever else we can think of.
The hallacas were already made. Mom made them while we were painting the house. So all that was left was to do the rest.

La ensalada fue rápida una vez estuvieron listas las papas, zanahorias y huevos. El pan, como siempre lo hicimos las tres.
Y así se armó el Merry Christmas en mi hogar el día de ayer, con mi familia. Agradezco a Dios por ello.

The salad came together quickly once the potatoes, carrots, and eggs were ready. The bread, as always, was made by the three of us.
And that's how we celebrated Merry Christmas at home yesterday with my family. I thank God for it.

Gran dato cubrir el arbolito con tela, cada año siempre tengo el problema de que se llena de mucho polvo, la decoración te quedo preciosa
