Hanging around in dark places with lasers

in Lightpainters United4 years ago

I'm not quite sure how I ended up doing this but looking back through my lightpainting stuff, I seem to have shot quite a lot with laser beams. To make the beams stand out you need smoke, lots of it whether it's from a smoke pellet or grenade or a friendly lightpainter with a Vape "thing" thanks to @fadetoblack and his lungs!

This is my latest laser shot from a cave under the Peak District. Very simple to do; place a mid blue gelled Godox AD200 at the back of the cave being careful to avoid slipping "ass over tit" on the rocks and fixing the laser to the flashgun. Here I threw two smoke pellets in to the cave as we arrived only to find that the wind was blowing from outside and in to the cave meaning it took ages for the smoke to clear!

Working with lasers in a studio was much harder than I thought it would be. Here @brianbrogan1960 blew vape smoke behind the model Molly. It probably needed more smoke but this was Brian's studio and I didn't want the smoke alarms going off!

This was shot in Roche Abbey and it kinda demonstrates that more smoke is always needed when firing laser beams. Here, even though it was a large smoke grenade, it was difficult to get the smoke to blow where needed to illuminate the beams:

All of the above were shot in one photographic exposure and are not Photoshop creations!

About me:
I usually specialise in shooting lightpainting images but occasionally dabble in urbex and artistic model photography. I'm always on the lookout for someone to collaborate with; please don't hesitate to get in touch if you'd like to create art.

I'm with you on that one! My Sony full frame is 5 years old and I've got away with it so far...

heard some horror stories from club (party) photographers with laser and sensors.

My lungs and I say you're welcome. Great set pal and more lasers please.

Thanks pal, surprisingly your lungs have played an underestimated part in the stuff we've shot lol

Brilliant as always. The shot with Molly brings back memories

Thanks Brian, we should do a "reunion" photoshoot to catch up with past models such as Molly here and maybe Nikki Dine-Hart (if they're still modelling that is lol)

That would be a brill idea if we could get a place to do it

Yep, we need a centrally located village hall type place lol
