A friend of mine, who works in a gift shop in Oxford, was getting rid of shop fittings and accessories., one item of which included a full size mannequin. The mannequin was "female" posed in a sitting position with detachable arms and legs but with one catch; it had no head! Of course I had to use this for lightpainting purposes and I got one or two results which disturbed me, never mind anyone else!!
Discombobulated Mannequin
Near me is a footbridge over a river. The location is remote enough in the countryside that I wouldn't be disturbed by anyone passing such as a dog walker. Carrying a full size mannequin under my arm in the dark whilst lugging a big backpack and various camera supports would be quite conspicuous! Unfortunately, on the walk from the car to the footbridge, several cars suddenly appeared out of nowhere and I half expected the police to be called and I'd be arrested on suspicion of disposing of a body!!
Anyways, I set up a couple of flashguns and detached the leg in a bodysnatcher style! It seems I wasn't reported to the police and managed to bag this image!
Mannequin of OCD
After I'd got over the embarrassment of carrying a full size female mannequin, I placed a black plastic tube over the end of the lens to limit the exposed part of the image to a circle. I then spin burning steel sparks behind the mannequin and replace the lens cap without ending the exposure. In total darkness, I removed the tube, then fired the same rear mounted flashgun to light up the rest of the scene. The purpose of the tube is to create a mask in the same way as you would in Photoshop but without digital manipulation. This image was shot in one photographic exposure and is not Photoshopped:
Arrive Before You Left
Camera rotation shenanigans at the kitchen table with a smaller artist's mannequin. Shot in one photographic exposure with a Roundflash softbox set to 1/64th power for the blur and 1/4 power for the more prominent figure on the right. I need more props for rainy nights in.....
Mannequin Mind Control
More SOOK (straight of the kitchen!) faffery at home with the artist's mannequin due to it raining cats and dogs outside. Backlit using a Roundflash softbox then tripod swapped mid exposure to point at a pre-arranged iPad with a warp speed pattern made using an app I can't remember the name of...
All shot in one photographic exposure, this is not a Photoshop creation.

Wow! Awesome! Good idea!
Thanks mate, not a good idea to be seen walking alone in the dark with a naked mannequin however! :-)
