Light Painting in Nature. It's a great location!

in Lightpainters United2 years ago (edited)

Hi Ho Hive creators,
It's been another good week, with the weekend just gone being another enjoyable meet up with Phill Fisher. We must have been meeting up to create Light Painted images nearly every weekend for the last year or more and have been to some stunning locations.
Location is a key part of outdoor photography whether for Landscape, Astro or Light Painting, however just taking shots outside in a natural environment, without any obvious landmarks or features can be just as aesthetic and is a great place to create abstract and composed Light Painted images.

Finding spaces and places to Light Paint is not difficult but finding the right spot can take time and patience (something I could do with a little help with!). The types of natural locations I enjoy mostly are either in woodland areas or by the sea and both have their own challenges and advantages.

I feel lucky to live in such a beautiful part of the world with the New Forest and the World Heritage Site of the Jurassic Coast right on my doorstep. The Dorset coastline is known for its outstanding beauty and amazing geological features.

Many of these early outings into the dark landscape were just about being in the spaces that had been visited in daylight hours and trying to capture the same compositions but with Light Painting added into the frame. It has taken me a few years to get closer to figuring out that the Light Painted feature does not have to be the main focus in the image but the whole frame "DOES" have to be considered when creating Light Painting in images. Even abstract forms looks best when they fit into the frame with the rest of the features of the composition or are totally isolated by the darkness.

I have spent a lot of time looking for suitable Light Painting Locations all over the South of England and many, more distant locations. There are a few locations that I have revisited many times, either because they are convenient to get to or because of the atmosphere and isolated aspect which allows me more creative freedom, and I can put on the Bluetooth speaker and play some Deep Psychedelic Funk which always sets the right mood.😎

WHAT IS LIGHTPAINTING?
Lightpainting is a photographic technique in which exposures are made by moving a hand-held light source while taking a long exposure photograph, either to illuminate a subject or to shine a point of light directly at the camera, or by moving the camera itself during exposure. Nothing is added or removed in post processing.

Great stuff here!
I always wanted to do more in snow. But the season is always sooo short here in Berlin. Hardly any snow. Well and beach always works for me 😎

Thanks mate, yeah loved painting in the snow. Not many opportunities here on the South Coast.

All the shots are cool!! The second photo of the Jurassic coast and that one with the tree are my favorites!! Keep creating :)
