This is why government has to be limited. Canada hasn't the legal structure to limit it's government, being a monarchy. But, you do still have guns, and I'd make sure you keep them, because when governments move to take your guns, then they get really invasive, such as they did in the early 20th Century in the Ukraine, Belarus, and Russia, starving ~10M people to death and forcing the survivors to live and work on collective farms for the benefit of the state.
Keep your guns, and rein in your government before they kill you all.
