I was probably less than fifteen feet from it. They like sightings reported so they keep up with activity. The ranger said he definitely was full grown. I thought he was young, but, black bears always look young to me. It is their small stature, I think.
I must say that hikers, in general, are kind and thoughtful and don't blink when help is needed. It makes one want to take to the trails full time. I can see why some people do.
