The other day when I went out for a bike ride with no predetermined direction, we ended up at the Museo de la Cultura here in Valencia, Venezuela.
It is a place that was recently remodeled and it was quite nice, it has a large courtyard where there are some cafes, the most striking being the cafe El Principito (based on The Little Prince book) which is under a large tree from which hang some stars and shiny planets.
That day, a lot of pieces of different styles and authors from different regions of the country, who were participating in the Arturo Michelena Biennial Salon, which had not been held for about 15 years, were exhibited inside.
There, we walked around the spaces and white corridors for a while, taking some of the pictures you see here.
Actually, I'm not much of a museum person. The activity of being in a silent place contemplating paintings and precious works, and sometimes too abstract for my short understanding, is not a task that I am very good at.
Let me explain: I deeply appreciate art in all its forms, and I can appreciate the complexity of creating a work of art such as a painting or sculpture from a simple idea or image that the author desires. I understand that the creative process is an overly complex and personal subject, and how satisfying it is to appreciate the end results.
However, I am sad to say that I am one of those people who get bored quickly in museums. But I think I know the reason: pure ignorance.
I think I fail to connect or go deeper with the works because I don't know much about art, its history, the different techniques or the artists. It's like the mere mortal who sees the starry sky and can only say "wow it's so pretty!", appreciates its splendor for a few seconds, and then continues what he was doing. Unlike the astronomy enthusiast, who not only appreciates the starry sky for its superficial beauty, but understands what every star is, identifies the constellations and phenomena, and thus manages to connect with it.
I am sad to say that, as far as museums are concerned, for now I belong to the simple and ignorant mortals. This happens perhaps because I simply have not given myself the task of delving a little deeper into all that this implies.
All this reflection makes me think of the endless number of things that we let pass by out of mere ignorance and carelessness. How many things we could enjoy if only we would educate ourselves a little more.
Honestly, I did not think that after this visit, I would end up with an interesting reflection. In the end, the museum ended up surprising me.

El otro día que salí a rodar en bici sin rumbo predeterminado, terminamos en el Museo de la Cultura aquí en Valencia, Venezuela.
Es un lugar que recientemente fue remodelado y quedó bastante bonito, cuenta con un patio grande donde hay algunos cafés, siendo el más llamativo el café El Principito, ubicado bajo un gran árbol del que cuelgan algunas estrellas y planetas luminosos.
Ese día, se exponían dentro un montón de obras de diversos estilos y de autores de diferentes regiones del país, quienes participaban en la Bienal Salón Arturo Michelena, el cual tenía aproximadamente 15 años sin celebrarse.
Allí, estuvimos recorriendo los espacios y blancos pasillos un rato, tomando algunas de las fotografías que ven acá.
En realidad, no soy mucho de museos.
La actividad de estar en un sitio silencioso contemplando pinturas y obras preciosas, y a veces demasiado abstractas para mi corto entendimiento, no es una tarea que se me de muy bien.
Me explico: aprecio profundamente el arte en todas sus formas, y puedo apreciar la complejidad de crear una obra de arte como una pintura o escultura a partir de una simple idea o imagen que el autor desee. Entiendo que el proceso creativo es un tema demasiado complejo y personal, y qué satisfactorio es apreciar los resultados finales.
Sin embargo, me apena decir que soy de esas personas que se aburren rápidamente en museos. Pero creo conocer la razón: ignorancia pura.
Creo que no logro conectar ni profundizar con las obras porque no conozco mucho sobre arte, su historia, las diferentes técnicas o los artistas.
Es como el simple mortal que ve el cielo estrellado y solo puede decir "wow qué bonito!", aprecia su esplendor unos segundos, y luego continúa lo que estaba haciendo. A diferencia del aficionado por la astronomía, quien no solo aprecia el cielo estrellado por su belleza superficial, sino que entiende qué es cada estrella, identifica las constelaciones y fenómenos, y así logra conectar con él.
Me apena decir que, respecto a los museos, por ahora pertenezco a los simples e ignorantes mortales. Esto sucede quizá porque simplemente no me he dado la tarea de profundizar un poco más en todo lo que ello implica.
Toda este reflexión me hace pensar en el sinfín de cosas que dejamos pasar por mera ignorancia y descuido. Cuántas cosas podemos llegar a disfrutar si solo nos instruyéramos un poco más.
Honestamente, no pensé que luego de esta visita, terminaría con una reflexión interesante. Al final, el museo terminó sorprendiéndome.

We can find amazing things if we are open-minded, but it is okay if we don't feel connected to something, maybe is because it is not for us, or maybe because that thing is not well done (objectively). I had an amazing date with you that night. LYKK!
Te entiendo. Es como sentir que uno mismo es extranjero. Que no conocemos el idioma del artes. Y como plasmar cada detalles para cultivar lo que vemos en cada cuadro o estructura. Yo también pensaba así. Y cuando empieza a conocer a los autores y si historia. Se vincula de una manera cercana. No somos ignorantes a esto. De hecho es la idea perfecta para atraer a un futuro artista 🎨🖌️ que puedan expresar su sentimiento o imaginación en ella. Jejeje. Me encanto ver toda la fotos y son hermosa este lugar
