When I enrolled for a catering school, They explained I will be paying for the school fee, the handouts ,some recipes textbooks, aside that I will be paying for the cost of material for my practical each week, the practical we will be calculated then divided by the numbers of students involved, then each student pay their part every Monday to go get them So, I was like we are many students there ,the partial cost can't be that much. When I started everything was going smoothly, practical fee was nut much, I pay 5k ,7k every week,it went on until we move from stages to stages int the practical room.
Now, our calculation started going more than 200k and each student paying 15 -20k, my transportation money is not included, feeding money isn't. Pressure started to be much at home, some time I will be sent only my practical fee and won't have anything to feed on, I started compulsory fasting because no food and later I sat down to think on what to do to scale through, I started noodles and egg with shawarma spot ,I resume there in the evening after class everyday, the profit wasn't much because it was competitive with mallam selling around there for cheap price so it affected me not being able to charge well but I was seeing feeding money everyday at least that helped me .
After a while, everything changed back and I was enjoying it, business ideas started growing and I decided to start selling some things we do need for practicals instead of going outside to buy. So, instead of us going to market to get things, I told my course mate that I will be bringing all we need now,so no need to go market, they were happy about it because market runs is always stressful for them, one part they hate most . That was how I was able to scale through my year and graduated .
School will humble you no doubt, no matter how well you have prepare, school will still show some uncomfortable moments.
