Beyond Studies; Getting Some Side Hustles

Passing through school could require a lot. Depending on one's personality and status. There is always a demand nonetheless. From academic necessities to other personal needs, things outside the direct academic space. For such reasons and more, students engage in other labours to address the situations.

For some, it could be to get the academic materials. For others, it could be to be able to provide a means of survival and little dependence on home. Yes, we go to school to learn, but many students have used it as a means to gain some skills, start a business and prepare themselves for the future.

Some students started a business, acquired skills, engaged in jobs that helped them in school and still beneficial to them today. I was not much of a business-oriented person but I had my dreams of some businesses, which for some reason did not come alive. Getting something to do and earn from was necessary beyond what I received from home. Since I knew how much spending was required.

The business ideas did not work out. I knew however that I did not need to stop the efforts or bring the hustle to an end. Sincerely, I had known that I would need to get something to do, to add to my income beyond what comes from home. I had been informed of how much my course/department demanded; financially and time-wise. So, getting a side hustle was necessary.

Several efforts were made towards this, which the business ideas were a part of it. A friend of mine decided we would embark on one, which could involve us taking a loan. Yes. Perhaps that crippled the idea. The time-demanding nature of my course hindered me from getting some kind of work; those that would take up a lot of time.

At some point, I had to get a skill. A digital skill since I was an admirer of digital skills. Surely, I would have taken up a physical skill but the time-demanding nature of the department proved a factor. Hence, the digital skills were a necessity beyond just an admiration at that point. I'm glad my interests aligned with that path.

I was taking a course that had to do with design and presentations. As a result, graphics design and video creation/editing became a perfect interest. For some reason, I liked them. I registered for the six-week digital skills acquisition program and put my best into it. After some time of learning, practice and growth, I sought freelancing offers.

Those were some major skills I got that one way or another helped me through my school days. But it doesn't stop there. I utilised the opportunity of our design courses in school and designed for my classmates and other levels. I did their designs and got paid for it. I remember vividly how the money acquired from this helped me pay for some things during my project.

The school environment is a ground; a breeding ground beyond just an academic one. Several individuals have crafted their future or what has gone on to sustain them after school. Get that skill, start that business, or do that work. There can be an experience to gain or a future to build from that.

As much as there are lots of side hustles one can choose from, it's best to pick one that wouldn't be a problem on the long run.

It's good you took your time to choose what was best for you.

Yeah, that's true.

I'm glad I did that.
Thank you.
