Welcome my amazing people to another amazing week in hive student connect community,on this week prompt I will be telling you about my roommate Hannatu and we met.
I got admission to college of education akwangan November 2023,but I went to the school 5th of January 2024, the plan was to pay my fees then make inquiries for accommodations.
On 5th January 2024, I paid my acceptance fees, paid my school fees and did all my registration. When I was done I was asked to take the photocopy of all the receipts to the admission office.
When I got there I saw a lady sitting in the office with our admission officer.I greeted them then submitted all the receipts to him, he checked everything and gave me a file that is to be returned to him when I fully resume.
I asked if that was all he said yes, I was about to leave when he asked me if I already have accommodation I said no, that he has a house for rent.
I asked him how much, he said one room without kitchen and toilet inside is thirty thousand naira, while the one with kitchen and toilet inside there is one for fifty thousand naira and another for seventy thousand naira.
To me it was cheap. I was excited and called my dad. I told him everything and let him know I would like the one with a kitchen and toilet inside, but he said with the amount he has spent lately the money was too much.
Except I will go for the one room, I had my mom voice in the background saying no, public toilets are not an option, that I should make inquiries for hostels, and that is the part I don't want to hear.
But anyway I went back inside to confirm about the hostels, and said the old hostel is five thousand naira while the new hostel is twenty thousand naira. The new hostel has just four of us in the room, so I thought it would be safe and clean.
I decided to pay for the hostel since I still have twenty thousand naira in my account,so I asked him where I can make payment, then the lady sitting in the office listening to us asked me, "Have I seen the hostel before? I said no.
She asked me again if I wanted to pay for something I didn't see? I told her that was not the plan, my plan was to stay off campus but at the moment I afford to stay off campus.
She said if the hostel is twenty thousand naira then I should add ten thousand naira to make it thirty thousand naira and get a single room.
I told her stay at Abuja I have to go back I don't have time to start house hunting, so she agreed to help me house hunting,I ask if she has someone to stay with,she said no she actually live in akwangan but will also want to get one room close to the school because of transportation from the house will be much.
So I suggested we get a room together instead,she agreed and total strangers became roommates, from roommates to friends and from friends to sisters.
Yeah we have our differences but it has been easier with time and it is really fun, the sweet part is nobody believes us when we tell the story of how we met, we met in a strange way but a bond that will last eternity was created.
Most times best experience comes from people we don't know. Total strangers turn into family.
