I do not vividly remember how some of my friendships began and sometimes I wonder how I became such good friends with some of the amazing people I call friends. However, one thing I can say is that I'm absolutely grateful for all the people I call friends today. Because they have proved time and again that they are indeed friends.
"Share a story of a friendship you built in school."
Some years ago, I was very doubtful of the path I was taking educationally. A lot of factors came into play after my high school education and a year later, I found myself on a campus, many miles away from home with strangers.
The day I moved into the lodge close to the campus, I was still fuming with anger. Mainly because I felt left out when the rest of the people I graduated with had moved further in life. One could say it was a feeling of stagnation I couldn't quite shake off.
I moved into my lodge on a Sunday and the very next day, lectures began. I do not want to begin talking about how intense the new environment felt but with certain friends, I was able to seamlessly pull through.
As I stepped out of my lodge on Monday, I met someone on the same route. He looked like a student who was familiar with the environment. My thoughts were “even if he wasn't a student, at least he should know his way around” because this fellow walked like he owned the street..
I'd like to mention that I did a whole lot of contemplating before asking this young man for directions because at the time, I rather went missing than ask for help. But time was running out and from the memo I got, I had a lecture very early that morning.
After swallowing the large amount of pride I had managed to store over the years, I walked up and asked for direction. With the greatest amount of indifference he could muster, he looked down on me, because he was significantly taller, and said he had no idea. So why put up a show?
Immediately after, he walked ahead and I trailed closely behind him. Thanks to my good sense of geography, I eventually located my campus and the exact lecture hall.
Fast forward to about two days later, guess who I saw coming out of the same apartment gate with me? The same fellow. We briefly said our hellos and continued on different paths mainly because we had nothing to talk about.
Along the line, we got cordial and became good friends. From attending lectures together, because he was in the same faculty with me, to figuring out campus life together. It was a really fun ride.
Some months down the line, I randomly found out that many people stayed clear of me because I had a “protector”. When I inquired further, I realized my “protector” was this tall and huge friend of mine who apparently always had a scowl on his face.
Together, we navigated through life on that campus. We graduated at the same time and went ahead to further our education in different locations. However, we still remain good friends till date even when we are far apart.
This is one of the friendships I'm grateful for because he was one of the people who made campus life fun.
Images belong to me,except stayed otherwise.
😂😂😂😂 sometimes it happens to me whereby I won't even remember how it started and those type of friendship are always strong, and I love the fact that your friend stood as your protector which is so sweet of him. Nice write-up
Sending you an Ecency vote! 👍😊✨
Thank you✨
Awnn, such a beautiful friendship story. Most times how it begins is funny. What I love the most is the fact that you are still cool and in touch.
This is really interesting. You see pride nearly rubbed you off the friendship. Thank God you swallow it. Thanks for sharing your friendship journey with us here.
