Introducing Myself: @garth.algar on Hive šŸŽø

Hey everyone! I guess this is where I introduce myself, huh? Well, let’s get to it. My name’s @garth.algar, and no, I’m not actually Garth Algar, but I am a huge fan of the character—and 80’s and 90’s pop culture in general. I mean, who doesn’t love that era, right? It was a golden age of movies, music, and the kind of TV that just doesn’t get made anymore. So yeah, I figured this would be the perfect homage to one of my favorite movie characters. 🤘

You can expect a lot of my content here on Hive to dive deep into that world. From cult classics like Wayne’s World (duh!) to gems like Ferris Bueller’s Day Off and The Breakfast Club—I could go on forever. But don’t worry, I won’t be that guy who only talks about the movies everybody knows. I’ve got a few under-the-radar favorites too. (We’ll get into those later—stay tuned for my thoughts on stuff like Pump Up the Volume and Real Genius šŸŽ„).

How I Found My Way to Hive

You know, it’s funny how I ended up here. I wouldn’t call myself a tech geek, but I’ve always been a bit of a nerd for new platforms and ways to connect. Some acquaintances of mine (who I won’t name because we’re not close like that) nudged me toward Hive. They’d been talking about the decentralized world and how there’s no middleman here, which sounded great. I thought, ā€œWhy not?ā€

I started poking around the platform, and sure enough, I got hooked. Hive feels like this community of people who get it, you know? There’s something real here, and I love the idea of having control over your own content. Also, I noticed there’s a good chunk of Hive users who are into pop culture, nostalgia, and even retro gaming—which is, like, right up my alley. šŸŽ®

So, after lurking around and soaking it all in, I decided to make it official. Here I am, @garth.algar, ready to dive headfirst into Hive’s community and bring along my obsession with all things 80’s and 90’s.

What I’m All About

For me, this is all about fun. I’m not here to try to reinvent the wheel or preach about blockchain (although I’m definitely learning). Instead, I’m here to relive the good old days—through movies, music, and maybe even some vintage video games. Think of me as your go-to guy for pop culture nostalgia.

Movies šŸŽ„

Oh, man. Where do I even start? I’ve always been the kind of guy who can watch a movie a hundred times and still catch something new. Like, have you ever noticed how Die Hard is technically a Christmas movie? Or how Back to the Future basically predicted half the stuff we have today? Yeah, I’m that guy.

I’ll be posting reviews, deep dives, and general musings on everything from Ghostbusters to Beetlejuice to, of course, Wayne’s World. Expect a mix of well-known hits and forgotten flicks that deserve more love. Spoiler alert: I might ramble about The Goonies a lot, because it’s perfection.

Music šŸŽø

My love for the 80’s and 90’s extends to the music too. It was a time when rock bands ruled, and pop music was in its weird, experimental prime. From hair metal to grunge to hip-hop’s golden era—I’ve got a playlist for every mood.

You’ll definitely see me talking about albums, music videos (remember when those were a thing?), and even the wild fashion choices of the time. Expect shoutouts to Queen, Nirvana, and of course, Alice Cooper (because it’s always Alice Cooper time, right?).

TV Shows šŸ“ŗ

Back in the day, TV wasn’t just background noise. You sat down to watch your favorite shows with intention, and if you missed an episode, well… tough luck. I’ll definitely be throwing in posts about iconic TV shows like Friends, The X-Files, and The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. But don’t sleep on the forgotten gems—anyone else remember Perfect Strangers or ALF?

Retro Gaming šŸŽ®

I’m a sucker for old-school gaming too. Sega Genesis, Nintendo 64, PlayStation 1—I love them all. There’s just something so satisfying about the simplicity of retro games. You didn’t need a million-dollar budget to make a game like Sonic the Hedgehog or GoldenEye 007 work. It was all about gameplay and fun.

I’ll be throwing in the occasional retro gaming post, and if you’ve got some favorites from that era, drop a comment. Maybe we’ll do some collective memory dives into the classics.

What You Can Expect From Me

So, here’s the deal. You can count on me to keep things chill, fun, and full of nostalgia. I’m not here to get too deep into the serious stuff. My goal is to create a little corner on Hive where people can unwind, talk about their favorite Back to the Future moments, or debate the greatest 90’s soundtrack (spoiler: it’s Singles).

I’m always open to suggestions. Got a movie you think I need to see? Hit me up. Want to relive some classic episodes of The Simpsons? Let’s do it. This is a two-way street, folks—so don’t be shy!

Why Hive?

Honestly, it just felt right. I like the freedom Hive gives its users. There’s no pressure to churn out content for the sake of it. You create what you want, when you want, and you get rewarded for it. Plus, there’s a really cool sense of community here that I haven’t seen on other platforms.

Hive’s decentralized nature makes it even better. I’m learning about how that works, and it’s pretty awesome to know that there’s no corporation telling us what to do. We’ve got control over our stuff, and that’s exactly how it should be.

Shoutouts

I’ll admit it—I’m still getting the hang of this whole Hive thing. I’ve had some help from people along the way (you know who you are šŸ˜‰), but I won’t go into details. We’re not super close or anything, but they definitely helped me figure out how to navigate the Hive waters. So… thanks, random Hive pals. I owe you one!

Wrapping Up

Anyway, I think that’s enough about me for now. I’ll be posting soon, so keep an eye out for reviews, nostalgia dives, and random musings on all things 80’s and 90’s. If you’re into any of that, hit that follow button or leave a comment. I’m always down for a good chat about the glory days.

Oh, and don’t worry, I’ll try to keep my Garth Algar references to a minimum. Try being the key word here. šŸ˜„

Alright, party on, Hive! Let’s make this totally excellent.

Peace out! āœŒļøšŸŽø

I was initially expecting to hear a wrong lyric in there, but never noticed anything off in that regard...I noticed this (below) on about my third run-through...is this what I'm looking for?

Seven suggestions to consider:

  1. Guard your passwords carefully, and only publish with the posting key,
  2. Use your active key only for wallet transactions, Keychain, Peaklock, and Hivesigner,
  3. The master password and the owner key are only used to reset compromised passwords,
  4. DO NOT lose your password or keys; copy and store offline,
  5. Do not publish other people's work, be it photos or written, without credit, and be sure to source all of your work, even if it is your own.
  6. An introduceyourself tag is used only once , and
  7. DO NOT OPEN any links in memos or comments that you do not know who they belong to. If it sounds too good to be true it probably is, so the old saying goes. There is nothing free here.
