Es un placer y un honor para mí estar de visita por esta increíble comunidad que nos alienta a crecer en esos primeros pasos que vamos dando en aquello que nos apasiona o nos da contento dentro de esta blockchain.
Y precisamente hablando de primeros pasos y de crecer, hoy vengo a compartirles sobre una nueva experiencia que me hizo desempolvar una vieja afición que tenía, digamos, engavetada en los recuerdos.
Aquel dicho popular de que "loro viejo no aprende a hablar", es un paradigma que cada día se invalida más con la experiencia y los testimonios de muchas personas que han decidido dar un paso hacia adelante y retomar o aprender algún oficio, sin importar si ya cruzan el medio siglo de vida.
Por eso vengo a contarles sobre mi experiencia como ilustrador de mis historias.
Soy de esas personas, como muchas otras en esta plataforma, que le gusta que su publicación tenga un apoyo visual, con imágenes o ilustraciones que encajen cómodamente, y que tengan una relación coherente con lo que deseo expresar.
Por la naturaleza de mis publicaciones, cuentos cortos de diversas temáticas, bajo un ambiente fantástico, de ficción y mágico, en muchas ocasiones he tenido que hacer toda una odisea por los diferentes bancos de imágenes (gratis para usos comerciales), y nada que consigo algo que me dé en el mero corazón, y, finalmente, termino escogiendo alguna foto o ilustración que apenas si se relaciona. ¿Te ha pasado alguna vez?
Para disminuir un tanto el paseo por las imágenes virtuales, y ahorrar un poco de tiempo, empecé a acercarme al uso de las IAs de arte digital (Wombo, Starryai) para crear algunas imágenes propias, con el fin de tener, al menos, una ilustración más aproximada al sentimiento que quiero expresar.
Y fue hace unos quince días, cuando comencé a realizar mi primer audio-cuento, que me percate que sería complicado ilustrarlo, sobre todo porque iba dirigido también al público infantil.
Es sabido que, a los peques les fascina ver los dibujos de sus cuentos, y a veces los prefieren más que a la misma historia en sí; hasta son capaces de recrearla sólo viendo las imágenes y crear otras historias distintas debido a su poderosa imaginación.
Al usar inteligencia artificial para diseñar el arte del audio-cuento, esta me generaba algunas ilustraciones únicas, pero que aun así, no satisfacían lo que imaginaba para una niña o niño.
Recurrir a los bancos de imágenes ya no era una opción. Por lo que tuve que desempolvar una antigua afición, una que alguna vez tuve y en la que me he recreado muy eventualmente, y de forma empírica, se podría decir, el dibujo.
Me considero un aficionado a las ilustraciones en general, pero nunca he tomado clases, ni he estudiado algo alusivo con el arte de dibujar. Lo poco que sé es igual a cualquier otro mortal común. De forma empírica. Y con la llegada de la tecnología, me ha pasado igual.
Por lo que decidí hacer mis propias ilustraciones que acá presento, paso por paso, en su proceso de elaboración.

And precisely speaking of first steps and growing, today I come to share with you about a new experience that made me dust off an old hobby that I had, let's say, shelved in the memories.
That popular saying that "an old parrot does not learn to speak" is a paradigm that is invalidated every day by the experience and testimonies of many people who have decided to take a step forward and resume or learn a trade, regardless of whether they have already crossed the half-century of life.
That's why I come to tell you about my experience as an illustrator of my stories.
I'm one of those people, like many others on this platform, who like their publication to have a visual support, with images or illustrations that fit comfortably, and that have a coherent relationship with what I want to express.
Because of the nature of my publications, short stories of various themes, under a fantastic, fictional and magical atmosphere, many times I have had to make a whole odyssey through the different image banks (free for commercial uses), and nothing I get something that gives me in the center of my heart, and, finally, I end up choosing some photo or illustration that barely even relates. Has it ever happened to you?
To somewhat lessen the virtual image walk, and save a little time, I started approaching the use of digital art AIs (Wombo, Starryai) to create some images of my own, in order to have, at least, an illustration closer to the feeling I want to express.
And it was about fifteen days ago, when I started to make my first audio-story, that I realized that it would be complicated to illustrate it, especially because it was also aimed at children.
It is known that children love to see the pictures of their stories, and sometimes they prefer them more than the story itself; they are even able to recreate it just by looking at the images and create other different stories due to their powerful imagination.
When I used artificial intelligence to design the audio story artwork, it generated some unique illustrations, but still didn't satisfy what I imagined for a child.
Turning to image banks was no longer an option. So I had to dust off an old hobby, one that I once had and in which I have recreated myself very eventually, and empirically, one might say, drawing.
I consider myself a fan of illustrations in general, but I have never taken classes, nor have I studied anything allusive to the art of drawing. What little I know is the same as any other common mortal. Empirically. And with the advent of technology, the same has happened to me.
So I decided to make my own illustrations that I present here, step by step, in its elaboration process.
Y debo confesar que se ha sentido muy bien, como un alivio. Pues aunque mi imaginación supera, casi siempre, mis habilidades musculares para interpretar con mis manos lo que se ha tejido en mi mente, es sumamente satisfactorio poder llevar un mensaje, a través de los dibujos propios, más cónsono con la intención que deseo darle a la historia.
Lo que anhelo acá, es resaltar lo emocionante y satisfactorio de embarcarse en algo novedoso. Animarte a que, si tienes una destreza que siempre quisiste poner en marcha, o una afición que guardas para ti, esta maravillosa plataforma te da una oportunidad de compartirla y desarrollarla, incluso de percatarte de habilidades que creías dormidas u olvidadas, o que ni siquiera existían aparentemente en el horizonte de tus capacidades.
Viajando por las distintas tierras de esta blockchain, he visto que algunos son unos "maestros jedi" de las ilustraciones, y las usan para compartir sus destrezas y sus técnicas. En mi caso, debo aclarar que el fin de esta publicación está muy lejos de ser un tutorial. Después de todo, sólo soy un neófito en la materia, pero con ganas de seguir desarrollando este hermoso arte.
And I must confess that it has felt very good, like a relief. Because even though my imagination exceeds, almost always, my muscular abilities to render with my hands what has been stitched in my mind, it is extremely satisfying to be able to carry a message, through my own drawings, more in tune with the purpose I wish to give to the story.
What I long to do here is to highlight how exciting and satisfying it is to embark on something new. To encourage you that, if you have a skill you've always wanted to put into action, or a hobby you've kept to yourself, this wonderful platform gives you an opportunity to share it and develop it, even to realize skills you thought were asleep or forgotten, or that didn't even seem to exist on the horizon of your capabilities.
Traveling through the different lands of this blockchain, I have seen that some are "jedi masters" of illustrations, and use them to share their skills and techniques. In my case, I should clarify that the purpose of this post is far from being a tutorial. After all, I'm just a neophyte in the subject, but willing to continue developing this beautiful art.
Las ilustraciones, como la puedes apreciar en las imágenes, las realicé con lápiz de grafito, y luego delineé los trazos de estas con un marcador punta fina.
Utilicé GIMP como herramienta principal para la digitalización y coloreado; adicional y sólo en la portada del audio-cuento, usé IBISPAINT, esto con la colaboración de mi hija @anjiart. Aprovecho de darle mi gratitud de corazón por su apoyo. Y el resto de algunos efectos, los elaboré con TOOLWIZ.
The illustrations, as you can see in the images, were made with graphite pencil, and then I outlined the strokes of these with a fine tip marker.
I used GIMP as the main tool for digitizing and coloring; additionally and only in the audio-story cover, I used IBISPAINT, this with the collaboration of my daughter @anjiart. I take this opportunity to give her my heartfelt gratitude for her support. And the rest of some of the effects, I elaborated them with TOOLWIZ.
Es claro que siempre habrán personas, tanto por la naturaleza de sus publicaciones, como por la habilidad requerida, que razonablemente van a preferir el uso de los bancos de imágenes, y eso está bien. Lo importante es que, si recurres, ya sea a una imagen que encuentres en internet o te vales de tu arte digital original, valida el uso de las herramientas aplicadas y/o el origen de las fuentes, que deben ser las permitidas (Pixabay, Pexels, entre otras).
