Hoy quiero compartir con ustedes una de mis travesías recientes, hace unos días fui de compras, y como siempre, al regresar, mi esposo llamó a nuestro taxista de confianza para que nos viniera a buscar, ya que no podíamos venir en camioneta o transporte público, porque siempre cargamos muchas bolsas que pesan mucho.
Today I want to share with you one of my recent trips. A few days ago, I went shopping, and as usual, when I returned, my husband called our trusted taxi driver to come and pick us up, since we couldn't take the bus or public transportation because we always carry a lot of heavy bags.

The taxi driver replied that we would have to wait between twenty-five minutes and half an hour, as he was taking another customer who lived near our neighborhood. My husband asked him who that passenger was, and it turned out to be an old family friend whom I had met many years ago.

We work in the healthcare sector, and he had a daughter who was involved in a car accident on her way to college. Unfortunately, she suffered serious injuries and is now in a wheelchair. She cannot walk and has not fully recovered neurologically. Her father used to take her to the healthcare center where I worked for her rehabilitation therapy. That was about ten years ago, and during that time we became good friends. I hadn't seen them since then.

When the taxi driver arrived with the man, I greeted him and he immediately recognized me. I happily asked him about his wife and daughter, and he sadly told me that she was also on crutches, as she had suffered a fall, fractured her hip, and had been bedridden for more than two years. This surprised me greatly, because if they had a problem with their daughter, now the situation had worsened. But he told me that she was already better and that, despite her condition, she was already helping him a lot. Before, he had to care for two people with disabilities and also go out to work to provide for the family.
Ellos tienen un criadero de cerdos, con unos 20 o 25 cochinitos grandes y pequeños, para mi sorpresa, la señora se había recuperado un mucho y aunque aún usaba muletas, el señor me contó que era muy activa: hacía todo tipo de quehaceres en el hogar y además pasaba tiempo en el potrero, bañando y alimentando a los cochinos, de verdad al increíble, a veces hay personas completamente sanas que no somos capaces de hacer ni la mitad de eso.
They have a pig farm with about 20 or 25 large and small pigs. To my surprise, the lady had recovered a lot, and although she still used crutches, the man told me that she was very active: she did all kinds of chores around the house and also spent time in the pasture, bathing and feeding the pigs. It's truly incredible; sometimes there are completely healthy people who aren't capable of doing even half of that.
Cuando llegamos al lugar, efectivamente la señora estaba bañando a los cochinos, ya había bañado casi todos, solo le faltaba uno, me impresionó muchísimo, ella es una mujer de casi 70 años, sin miedo al trabajo, con una fuerza admirable, siempre ha sido así, luchadora, trabajadora, y un gran pilar de su hogar.
When we arrived at the place, the lady was indeed bathing the pigs. She had already bathed almost all of them, with only one left. I was very impressed. She is a woman of almost 70 years old, unafraid of work, with admirable strength. She has always been like that: a fighter, a hard worker, and a great pillar of her home.
Su historia me llenó de emociones, hay días en los que uno se siente cansado, agotado, sin ganas, y ver a una persona con movilidad reducida haciendo tareas tan duras que muchos no se atreven ni a intentar, es verdaderamente inspirador.
His story filled me with emotion. There are days when you feel tired, exhausted, and unmotivated, and seeing a person with limited mobility doing such difficult tasks that many would not even dare to attempt is truly inspiring.
Además, me encanta el camino hacia su casa, hay muchos árboles grandes y pequeños, montañas, casas hermosas, criaderos, piscinas y demás, todo muy bonito, a mi de verdad me fascina el campo, siempre y cuando tenga las comodidades necesarias y un vehículo para salir cuando se necesite, ellos tienen una camioneta, pero la están reparando.
I also love the road to their house. There are lots of big and small trees, mountains, beautiful houses, farms, swimming pools, and so on. It's all very pretty. I really love the countryside, as long as I have the necessary amenities and a vehicle to get out when I need to. They have a truck, but it's being repaired.
