The Strongest Human Sense

in Hive Naijalast month

Many believe the eye is the most important sense of organ and I believed so too for a long period of time until I watched a movie titled SEE. That was when I knew that the sense of sight is not the most powerful sense organ but rather the sense to hear.

See is an American action movie that features Jason Momoa and Alfred Woodard in the leading roles. It so happened in the movie that a virus broke out in the 21st century wiping out most of humanity. Only a few people survived and all of their descendants lost their sense of sight. The concept of vision became a myth to the people as they believed that materials such as metal, concrete and rubbers were all gifts from the gods.

One amazing thing about this movie was how the blind were able to live for years like they had vision. They could read maps, travel and even go to wars with other nations. My mind was blown when the blinds were able to hunt down the sighted and kill them. It was believed that as long as you have the gift of sight, you are a witch and you have been cursed by the Gods. Children born with the sense of sight were to be killed. The movie was all about the blind trying to totally end the existence of the sighted (those with the natural ability to see).

Now these people were able to live by sounds. Their sense of hearing was so strong that they could fight a man with a vision and win. Another amazing thing was their hunting skills using arrows. They could target their prey and at a single shot, it's down. You can only imagine how they were able to make their weapons.

I also read about a boy named Daniel Kish. His eyes were removed when he was 13 months old because of retinal cancer. The sound he made by clicking his tongue against the roof of His mouth helped him work out what was around him. By the age of 6, he became so good with echolocation that he could ride a bike on the road by clicking his tongue against the roof of his mouth to avoid hitting people and cars.
Now he trains blind people all over the world on how to see using sound.

Now when it comes to hearing, there's more to it than we can imagine. One thing with the human sight is that it covers roughly 180 degrees of total vision field. But with a high sense of hearing, you can see beyond what your eyes can see. This is why you can tell a car is approaching even if you can't see it yet. Why? Because you could hear the sound miles away before your eye could even see it. Those in the military can understand this better.

When I understood the power of hearing, It became difficult for someone to sneak up on me without me knowing. I can tell the particular person coming into my office from the reception by just hearing their footsteps. If it is someone I haven't met before, I can tell. Science has it that the spectrum of the human ear is at least eight times greater than that of the human eye.

If you are yet to watch the movie "see", please try and do so. It will blow your mind

This is really interesting... The movie and the boy you mentioned, your entry made me realize that the sense of hearing can do more too.

Yeah. Try to check out the movie if you can. You'd love it

This is a good illustration BTW. There's a lot of thoughtful points in your writeup.

I knew the sense of hearing was very important when water got into my ears one time. I was saying "eh?" to every word that was spoken to me.

The human ear is a very delicate part of the human body. Thanks for stopping by

This is indeed a nice movie. Lovely illustration from the watch.

Ear is very sensitive that we never know until one experiences issues.
