Though blessed with fertile land that supports the growth of a variety of food crops ranging from yam, rice, legumes such as beans, groundnut, soybeans, and melon seeds, we have faced numerous challenges that have greatly affected our growth.
The most pressing issue affecting my hometown is the state of its road infrastructure. The topography of the area makes it difficult to travel to and from the town; it is situated between hills with steeps, making it hard for drivers and motorists to navigate the continuous descent and ascents up the hill.
The poor condition of the roads not only affects drivers transporting goods, services, and people to the town but also poses serious safety risks for those who attempt the journey.
Different governors have served; some even went as far as giving contracts for the construction of good road networks to the village, and none have come to fruition. Because every change in government automatically means old projects will be suspended, they usually end up leaving the work barely halfway to the village.
The construction of good road networks will not only make it easy to transport farm produce out of the town but also ensure safety for all those plying the road.
Furthermore, the lack of basic amenities such as electricity, clean water, education, and healthcare services is one of the hardships faced by the residents of my town. It is disheartening to think that in this modern age, access to essential utilities remains a luxury rather than a basic human right.
The absence of clean water sources also affects public health and hygiene; waterborne diseases are quite common there. Moreover, the lack of health care facilities leaves the community vulnerable to disease outbreaks and medical emergencies, with the nearest health center located kilometers away.
Education is another area in dire need of improvement in my hometown. Despite the importance of education in empowering individuals and driving societal progress, the absence of standard schools deprives youth of quality learning opportunities. The only structure there is an old dilapidated building they call a school, which was erected by the government years ago. Teachers posted to the school barely report or come to work because of the nature of the environment.
Inspectors from the ministry of education do not stress themselves coming down to the community; this only reflects how the system has failed to prioritize education in the rural areas within the state.
The government needs to invest in establishing well-equipped standard schools and employing qualified teachers who are passionate about their jobs to unlock the hidden potential of the younger generation, especially those in rural parts of the state like my hometown.
In addition, the government should also see that the construction of road networks should be a continuous project and not always stop with the previous government.
There should also be improvement in communication by enhancing telecommunication connectivity, which is very weak and, in short, almost absent since it is difficult to reach out to anyone in the village except they are the ones calling, thereby limiting access to information, hindering emergency efforts, affecting business transactions, and even social interactions.
It is time for the community leaders and government to come together and find a solution by addressing these issues so as to pave the way for a brighter future for all residents, especially the younger generation.

it's crazy that a country like Nigeria is still battling with electricity for over 60 years, meanwhile neighboring African countries are enjoying 24/7 electricity even down to their most remote villages. If lasting solutions are not implemented in your hometown, it's just a matter of time before everyone leaves for places with better basic amenities
The epileptic nature of electricity in Nigeria is beyond human comprehension. So many other towns are experiencing the same problem with my hometown.
Even in big cities, the power supply is not sufficient.
Your community surely needs an intervention. Someone from your community in government would go a long way in influencing things at the decision making boards
